Year 12
Final Senior Swimming Carnival for Year 12
The Year 12 students made their final Swimming Carnival a day to remember, filled with fun, spirited performances and unwavering Year Group pride. Embracing the vibrant theme of “What the Flipper Are You Wearing?”, students showcased not only their creativity with colourful costumes but also their excellence both in the pool and on the pool deck. With the ever-enthusiastic support of dedicated Sports and House Leaders, the carnival thrived from start to finish, creating an atmosphere of energy and excitement. The highlight of the day was the much-anticipated Year 12 novelty race, where laughter, teamwork and friendly competition took centre stage. This event was a clear reflection of the remarkable cohort they are – determined, patient, supportive and undeniably fun. Their participation captured the essence of school spirit, leaving a lasting legacy for future year groups to follow.
Public Speaking
Redlands students have achieved an outstanding milestone in the international public speaking competition Re:Solved, which challenges students aged 13-18 to engage in global debate.
The latest competition focused on the theme Democracy in 2024, with students delivering persuasive speeches to showcase their critical thinking and public speaking skills. Remarkably, four Redlands students have been named among the 32 global finalists – more than any other school worldwide. This is an extraordinary achievement, made even more impressive as it marks Redlands’ first year participating in the competition.
These students are:
- Marcus Richardson (Yr 11)
- Elizabeth Whelan (Yr 11)
- Elenor Blankenstein (Yr 12)
- Andy Guan (Yr 10)
The competition now moves into the Debating phase, where our students will compete in the second week of February. If successful, they will advance to the final round in Canada, with travel expenses fully covered by the competition organisers. The next debate motion they will tackle is: Make voting mandatory in national elections.

Congratulations to our talented students, and especially Elenor on this incredible achievement! We look forward to supporting them in the next stage of the competition. A heartfelt thank you to the teachers and coaches whose guidance has been invaluable throughout this journey.

We also commend all Yr 12 participants who dedicated countless hours to preparing and delivering speeches in this challenging competition. Well done to Jesse Forrest, Sophie Yu and Aiden van Hulsen for their hard work and commitment.
