Year 12
HSC and IB Half Yearly Assessments
Good luck to all the HSC and IB student completing their Half Yearly Assessments this week and next. For Yr 12 to perform at their best, they will need regular and adequate sleep, a healthy diet, daily exercise and regular reassurance from parents that their success in life does not depend on their final mark. Yr 12 may experience high levels of anxiety and depression during this time, so it is important that their mental health is looked after as well as their physical health. Yr 12 should do plenty of practice exams, focussing on questions they don’t understand and always getting feedback from teachers. Parents should try not worry if they feel their child isn’t studying enough. Sometimes students need to experience the consequences of their choices as they do not have the maturity to associate effort with outcome.
In regards to attendance during the Half Yearly assessment period, HSC students will be expected to come to school every day and will undertake their assessments during their regular timetable. IB students will just need to come onto the Senior Campus for their assessments. HSC students will be participating in quiet study time during Tutor Time which will assist students with preparing for their Half Yearly Assessment tasks.
HSC/IB students participating in Winter Rep sports will be required to attend all training sessions and competitions during the Half Yearly Assessment period. Maintaining a balance outside the assessment and exam period is very important for Yr 12, to allow them to rest and refocus and connect with peers.
Finally, all of Yr 12 will need to wear their full school Winter Uniform throughout the Half Yearly Assessment period. Yr 12 Jerseys will need to be worn under their blazers.

- Recognising unhealthy emotional expression and responding appropriately

Melbourne Universities Tour
During the break, 21 students from Yr 11 and 12 attended the Melbourne Universities tour with the Careers Advisors, Mrs Fowler and Ms Hurst, and the Yr 12 Year Advisor Mr Walker. This was a fantastic opportunity to visit Melbourne University, RMIT and to tour three of Melbourne University’s residential colleges. This experience has given our students an opportunity to be better informed when making decisions about their next steps after school.
One of the highlights was talking to Redlands Alumni currently studying in Melbourne and hearing about their experiences. Our Yr 12s in particular appreciated being able to speak to students they knew from the Class of 2022 and seeing that there is ‘light at the end of the tunnel” as they approach the end of Yr 12.
We appreciated Melbourne culture at the Melbourne Comedy Festival and excellent pastries from a laneway cafe. The experience also gave students the opportunity step up and gain the independence that is required when moving out of home to a new city. Congratulations to Anneka Steele who navigated the whole group on the tram from our hotel to Ormond College!
Thank you to Mr Nick Walker for his excellent guidance on the Tour, and for providing an apt name for the Impromptunes’ impromptu musical: Chicken Wings!
Thank you to all the students who represented Redlands and were engaged and professional throughout the tour.
