Year 11

Welcome Back to Term 3

Welcome back for what is sure to be an exciting and jam-packed Term 3. I do hope that students and families enjoyed the winter break and are feeling refreshed and re-energised. Whilst this was a different kind of holiday for many students, the school was still a buzz on Tuesday morning with stories and anecdotes of the break. It was delightful to see our students so animated and ready to continue their Yr 11 studies. We would like to welcome Tim Taylor who has joined our Yr 11 cohort from Sherborne, UK. In addition, we would like to welcome back Bethany Richardson who has returned from her cultural exchange in France. I am sure Tim and Bethany will transition quickly and I know that our community will make these students and their families feel very welcome.

Visual Arts Elective Students and Students With an Interest in Visual Arts

Visual Arts Extra Subjects run after school and are a great way to develop and expand artmaking skills and understanding. Extra Subject classes employ a studio approach to artmaking with students studying under the guidance of skilled media specific artists. A studio approach to extra subject classes ensures individual guidance whilst allowing for extensive and rigorous engagement with media. Extra Subjects classes are open to all students not only Visual Arts students and include:

Monday – Ceramics – wheel throwing and hand building
Tuesday – Painting
Wednesday – Life Drawing

Student Achievements

Emma Mahon competed in the NSW Athletics Short Course State Cross Country Championships last Sunday at Dapto and was happy to place 6th in the U18 girls 3km race. She is looking forward to competing at the NSW Athletics Long Course State Cross Country Championships in Nowra in early August. We are incredibly proud of Emma and these NSW events serve as the selection trials for the NSW team to attend Nationals.

George Murphy will be participating in training at Perisher this term as part of his commitment with NSW Institute of Sport and as part of the Australian National Moguls team. We wish George well with his training and look forward to hearing his news when he returns.

Registration for ICAS 2020

The 2020 International Competition and Assessment for Schools (ICAS) in Science will take place on Monday 17 August in school. This competition is undertaken by over 400,000 students across Australia and the region, and is a rigorous test of scientific thinking. Participation in the competition provides our students with excellent examination practice and an opportunity to see how they fare in competition with students of their own age from across the country. Students who are interested in Science can use the test to assess areas of strength and weakness. Success at the test is a way of demonstrating aptitude when applying for Science related opportunities in and out of school.

Entry for students in Yrs 7-10 is voluntary. Please complete the registration form before Monday 3 August if you would like them to take part. A fee of $15.95 will be charged to your account if you wish your child to participate.

More information about ICAS is here. Please contact Ms Simone Bryant, Assistant Science Coordinator, if you have any queries.
