Cambodia Service Learning Opportunity

In the December school holidays, students from our Year Group have the opportunity to travel to Cambodia and immerse themselves in Cambodian life. Redlands has had a connection with Cambodia for over 20 years and this will be the third year we have partnered with Antipodeans to provide this opportunity for Yr 11 students.

Students engage in a range of cultural immersion and Service activities including:

  • Working on a community project in a remote village located near Siem Reap. Last year’s group helped build and renovate a patient room at the community hospital.
  • A guided tour of the Killing Fields and Touel Sleng S21 Genocide Museum
  • A visit to M’Lop Tapang. This organisation was founded by a Redlander back in 2003 as an initiative to offer safety to vulnerable children. The organisation now works with over 5000 children and families to provide services, meals, shelter, medical care and education. Throughout the day students are introduced to some of M’Lop Tapang’s services and participate in a Child Safe presentation.
  • A day tour of Angkor Archaeological Park, which includes the famous Angkor Wat temple

This program gives students a wide range of experiences, while developing their understanding of Cambodian culture and history. It is designed to both educate and challenge students, helping them to embrace the concept of being a global citizen.

Please note, this program involves fundraising to support the community project and M’Lop Tapang organisation. Students are also required to complete six after school learning sessions to help prepare and maximise their experiences in Cambodia.

All parents and students are invited to find out more at the Information Evening on Thursday 21 February at 6.00pm in Redlands Hall. Any questions should be directed to Simon Colyer.
