Year 11
The Ethics Centre Writing Competition
Congratulations to Sophie Yu in Year 11, who won a Highly Commended award (13-17 years) in the Ethics Centre’s inaugural Young Writers’ Competition. Introduced to the competition in the Term 4 2023 Christian Studies program, Sophie submitted her essay “I changed my mind about prisons,” and received praise and recognition from the judges for making a thought-provoking case for restorative justice to be taken more seriously. Drawing on research of best practice in the Norwegian justice system, Sophie presented as evidence-based argument for more humane methods of rehabilitation and community integration to be implemented. Well done, Sophie! Thank you to our hardworking Christian Studies staff – Ms Philips, Ms Tymoszuk and Ms Wilson – as well as Dr Poon (High Potential Learning Coordinator, 7-12), for supporting Sophie and all Year 10 students in Christian Studies lessons to compose their essays. Holidays
In completion of our first term as a senior student, over the break, it’s essential to begin gearing up for the upcoming term. Take time to reflect on your academic progress from the past term, celebrating achievements while identifying areas for improvement. Collaborate with peers to devise strategies for addressing challenges. Sit down and establish clear academic goals for Term 2, ensuring they are specific and attainable. Plan for any extracurricular activities you wish to pursue and make necessary arrangements. In the latter part of the break, aim to regulate your sleep schedule to ease back into school routines. We’re dedicated to ensuring a successful and supportive start to the new term, and look forward to seeing you well rested after the break.
