Year 11

Mock Trial

Reflection from Hiro Phillips:

The Mock Trial team had our first round against Shore. We used the knowledge we have gained about the structure of trials to replicate the events of typical court proceedings. In this round we were the Defence, representing the company Horses for Courses who were being accused of negligence because of an accident that occurred during an equestrian event hosted last year.

We worked cohesively and collaboratively, taking on different roles of a legal team, fiercely debating details of the legislation in contention in our given case. It resulted in a legal victory for us; however, Shore won the Mock Trial competition, with a final score of 210-233. We are looking forward to continuing to practise our skills in the courtroom for the next round.

This round, our team consisted of:

  • Barrister 1 – Kosta Mangos
  • Barrister 2 – Sophie Yu
  • Solicitor – Ruby McDonald
  • Witness 1 – Lauren Dower
  • Witness 2 – Hiro Phillips
  • Court Officer – Elenor Blankenstein
  • Researchers – Emma Wong, Andrew Macourt, Caitlin Mitchell
