Industry Day Information
On Thursday 21 September, the Yr 11 cohort will be participating in Industry Day. This is an opportunity for students to dress in appropriate work attire, make their way to an industry for the day and learn through these professionals. Students will be able to:
- Familiarise themselves with a workplace,
- Gain an understanding of the range of professional roles that exist within an organisation and how these are projected to change in the future,
- Learn about the ‘soft skills’ employers regard as important when recruiting, and
- Engage in networking with members of the organisation.
Students will receive further information regarding this event on Friday during the Yr 11 Year Meeting. Parents and carers will be receiving information via Pulse. Thank you in advance for your support.
Yr 11 Leading Yr 10-12 Assembly
Over the last two weeks, Yr 11 students have volunteered not only to meet and greet at the front and back entrances to both campuses while Yr 12 are completing their yearly examinations, they also stepped up to lead the Yr 10-12 and the Yr 7-9 Assemblies during Tutor. Two groups of students planned, coordinated and ran these assemblies in creative, informative and interactive ways. Well done to students who volunteered their time to embrace this experience and continue growing as leaders.
Fall Forward Award goes to … Alex Tanner!
At the Yr 10-12 Assembly this week, our Yr 11 students presented the Fall Forward Award to Alex Tanner. Alex has managed her incredible dedication to Sport in school playing on the Redlands Firsts Basketball Team and outside of school playing with the Norths Premier U18s Team. This team won the Melbourne Classic, a nationwide tournament, and they finished 2nd in the State Championships. Additionally, Alex is coaching younger students at Norths while still managing her time on campus, in her classes and being a positive and supportive friend to her peers within the cohort. Congratulations, Alex!
HICES Music Festival
Students from Years 7-12 will be attending the HICES Music Festival from Sunday 13 – Wednesday 16 August. This Heads of Independent Co-Educational Schools (HICES) Music Festival draws schools from across Sydney for a 3-day camp, culminating in a concert at Sydney Town Hall on the final evening. Schools, students, and teachers compare practice, foster excellence, and nurture a love of music-making in the shared context. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students and this year we have two Yr 11 students attending, Hallie Hunt and Sholto Mirrlees-Black.
Yr 11 Alumni Presentations
This morning, Yr 11 were extremely lucky to have two Redlands alumni volunteer their time to talk to a group of students interested in studying abroad and in particular, in the fields of legal studies and film and fashion. Abby Goodin is completing her degree in Performing Arts and Film at Parsons University in New York and Lindsay McNeil has just completed an undergraduate law degree at Cambridge University. Abby and Lindsay shared their application experience, the reality of what is important in the application process, what to consider when wanting to study overseas and also what college is like abroad.
We are extremely honoured to have had them visit and we are very thankful to Mrs Kim Flatman, Alumni & Community Engagement Coordinator, for organising this experience for our Yr 11 cohort.
