Special Presentations for Yr 11 in Week 2

Next week, Yr 11 will hear from Paul Dillon on drugs and alcohol and they will also hear a follow-up from the In Your Skin: Healthy Sexual Relationships Workshop last year with Dr. Tessa Opie. We will be preparing students for these two presentations in our year meeting tomorrow. Please see additional resources for parents to assist with conversations at home.

Redlands Suspected Concussion Protocols

As we enter the Winter Season, it is timely to remind all members of the community about Redlands Concussion Protocol. We take any head knock extremely seriously. If a student does experience a head knock at any time, during a school-sponsored activity or an activity outside of school, they are asked to see a doctor for a medical examination immediately following the head knock. Redlands requests a confirmation from the medical examiner as to whether a concussion is confirmed. If a student is diagnosed with a concussion, further information will be shared with the student and parents to follow the Redlands Concussion Management Process. This process is in place to support a safe recovery and return to school for the student and to minimise long-term impacts of the concussion. If there are any further questions about this process, please direct questions to Mr Jonathan Gray, Dean of Activities.

Platinum Ladies Luncheon

Thank you to a sharp and professional group of Yr 11 students who helped to meet and greet the Platinum Ladies for the annual luncheon this week. The students were described as ‘absolutely divine.’ They were engaging well with the guests and sharing their appreciation of Redlands.

The following students were involved in Meeting and Greeting: Sophia Parkinson, Harrison Winder, Tara Gold, Apoorv Pilani, Isla Dawson-Damer, Lachlan Collyer, Sierra Allen, Isaac Brooks, Zara Clement, Otis Cooper, Chloe Moore, Zac Creighton, Scarlet Meijer, Harry Fenton, Emma Noes, Danny Casimaty and Mischa Barac.

Guests were also honoured to have students perform during the event. Olivia Everingham and Tara Gold led the school song and Scarlett Thorpe played a song on saxophone.

Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journey

Over the term break, we had several Yr 11 students who completed the Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journey. This experience includes purposeful adventuring and team building in an unfamiliar environment. Students go out for two days and one night as they are working toward their individual levels of Bronze, Silver or Gold.

Congratulations to the following students who completed this experience in the holidays: Hamish Campbell, Lucy Davies, Hallie Hunt, Jack Keogh, Conor Peterson, Aaron Beder, Winter Penney, Sabine Murray, Bianca Goggin, Ashley Stapleton, Christopher Szeto, Olivia Salmond and Alisha Tang.

Computational and Algorithmic Thinking Competition

The CAT competition is a one-hour problem solving competition designed to encourage student curiosity and promote multiple modes of thinking as well as solving real-world problems. Well done to Mischa Barac, Ethan Beggs, Rafferty Heard and Apoorv Pilani for volunteering to enter and complete this competition this week.

Redlands Ballet and Dance Academy “Student of the Month” Award

Congratulations to Summer-Eve Smyth, who has received the Student of the Month in Yrs 11-12 award. She received the award due to her commitment to dance, demonstrated by her attendance of several long days of ballet workshops in the second week of the holidays. Summer also represented Redlands in the IRBD Dance Competition, where she was awarded first place in the Open Broadway Jazz category.

Forbes Fundraiser

A Message from Yr 11 – As some of you may know, Forbes is a small town in NSW, neighbouring Lismore, which went through dire levels of flooding last year. They have slowly been recovering from flood levels reaching a 70 year record!! The environment is devastated and the community is still in desperate need of some assistance from those who can help.

This drive started in the end of Term 1 and is continuing through the beginning of Term 2. Please bring in anything you can manage and it will go a long way!!

Items to include could be:

seedlings
canned goods
Non-perishable foods
notebooks and school supplies
cutlery, utensils, frypans, cutting boards, bowls
financial aid
first aid kits
clothing
sewing items
tools (old hammers)

We will have boxes set up every morning at the front and back gates starting Wk 2 or in the Student Services Centre throughout the day.

Thank you everyone in advance for the consideration and donations!
