Year 10
Welcome back to Term 2. I hope you all had a lovely time over Easter and enjoyed spending some enforced time together as a family!
As you would have heard from both Mr Webber and Mr Corcoran, we are hoping to plan a gradual return to campus for Yr 10 over the coming weeks. Weeks 1 and 2 education will remain by remote learning, with plans to return to campus for one day a week in Weeks 3 and 4.
Meanwhile, please can you continue to email ssabsence@redlands.nsw.edu.au if your child is unable to attend Zoom classes or Tutor Time at any point during the day. Tony and I are emailing any student who is marked absent at any point during the day and does not have an ‘explained absent’ in the form of a parent email to the school. If your child does miss any sessions, please ask them to also email their teacher to let them know and then catch up the work that will be available on iLearn. Yr 10s have begun being very proactive in doing this and taking responsibility for themselves, which is great to see!
Independent Learning Day
Due to the successful trial of an Independent Learning Day at the end of Term 1, there will be one for both Week 1 and 2 this term. The first one is Friday 1 May and the second is Thursday 7 May. The students will not have any Zoom classes on these days but will have work that has been set by their teachers to complete. The only time they are still required to attend a Zoom session is for Tutor Time, to enable their Tutors to check-in on how they are going.
Effort Grades
Students have begun looking at their effort grades with their Tutors and setting goals for this coming term. They have been asked to complete a proforma that they will then discuss with their Tutor in a one-on-one Zoom session during Tutor Time in the coming couple of weeks. Please have a discussion with your child about this, and if you have any concerns, please get in touch with their Tutor or me. We are here to support you in any way we can.
Tutor Time
Our Tutor time has changed due to an increased recess break. It is now from 10.40-11.00am. This time is used as follows:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday are times for the Tutors to informally check-in with their groups, play games, have chats, and also conduct one-on-one meetings in break-out rooms.
Wednesday is a whole Year Group Zoom meeting and Friday is a remote Chapel session. These sessions are all compulsory and are very important to enable the Yr 10 Pastoral team to check-in on all students and see how they are managing. It is also an important time for students to socialise with each other in their small Tutor Groups.
Virtual Mother’s Day Classic 2020
The Mother’s Day Classic is an annual fun run and walk raising funds and awareness for breast cancer research. The aim of the Mother’s Day Classic is to deliver a fun, healthy and inspirational community event that brings the community together on Mother’s Day to support and remember those touched by breast cancer. Have fun, get active and help us raise funds online for vital breast cancer research.
The Redlands community has taken part in the Mother’s Day Classic for many years and we don’t want this year to be any different. We’re calling on students and family members, staff and alumni to sign up and support this wonderful event as it goes virtual.
We challenge participants to walk or run 4km or 8km – anytime, anywhere, in your living room, at the local park or even in your backyard – on or before Mother’s Day (Sunday 10 May) and be a part of something big.
Join the Redlands MDC20 Team and show your support for our community!

Congratulations
Well done to Amelie Heard who won the Strava Dog Drawing competition, one of the running challenges in the first week of the school holidays. As you can see, she produced an impressive drawing for her run, which was a very difficult challenge.
