Year 10
Musical Congratulations – Legally Blonde
Congratulations to the entire cast and crew who worked so hard to make the production of Legally Blonde an incredible success. What a performance! Your passion and commitment was evident in every aspect of performance, from the energetic choreography to the soaring vocals and strategic set changes. It takes a huge team to put together such a professional performance and everyone involved should be enormously proud of their efforts. A special congratulations goes to the Yr 10 students who were involved this year, and especially to Lexie Jones who so convincingly performed the principal role of Vivienne. I encourage Yr 10 students to look to be involved in the Musical for 2025, to step out of their comfort zone and join the Redlands Musical family in this wonderful opportunity.
Cross Country Carnival
Today a number of Yr 10 students chose to run in the Cross Country Carnival. Beyond the obvious boost to physical fitness through extensive running, this event ignites a sense of teamwork and house spirit among participants and really pushes students beyond their limits. Well done on these students for showing grit and resilience as they faced the challenges of the track in rainy conditions:

Yr 10 Fundraising Initiative: Raise Foundation
Well done to our enterprising Year 10 students who turned an idea pitched in Year 9 Commerce last year into a multi-campus fundraiser at Redlands on Monday.
As part of their Commerce studies, Year 9 students at Redlands engaged in a term long intrapreneurship program. This saw them work in small teams to quickly upskill around several different partner organisations and then apply human-centred design methodology to solve a given problem.
One partner organisation was youth mentoring foundation, Raise, which provides in school mentorship to 13–15-year-old students around Australia. These young people are grappling with issues like anxiety, depression, loneliness and bullying and they are the age group least likely to ask for help. With Raise, young people have access to a trained and trusted adult who supports them over a period of time. The mentor effectively fills that young person’s backpack with go to skills and strategies they’ll continue to use. Raise knows their program works but they need to ensure they maintain a stream of funding to continue to provide mentorship.
This is where Redlands students stepped in! The problem Raise gave student teams was how might they activate an innovative fundraising campaign in school communities that is appealing to young people and their families. The teams spent time with Founder and CEO, Vicki Condon AM learning about the organisation. They had the opportunity to interview her about what had been tried before, what programs cost to run and where she saw the biggest opportunities. They were then guided through the human centred design process by their classroom teachers, this involved interviews with students, teachers and families around what kinds of fundraisers they had participated in before, whether they regularly donate and if so how, as well as confronting ‘giving fatigue’. Armed with insights, the teams set to work ideating different possibilities. The teams received asynchronous feedback from Vicki and her team at Raise about which idea each team should pursue and continue to refine. The final step was a celebration of learning event where we invited all our partner organisations back onsite at Redlands to enjoy lunch with the Year 9 cohort and hear their pitches.
The team that was selected by Raise Foundation had the clever tagline ‘Raise Dough: Bake a Difference’ sitting atop their fundraising strategy which was an immediate hit with Vicki and her colleagues. With the School’s blessing they have taken our students ideas into the real world and trialled them with their corporate partners. We are delighted that learning in the classroom has the potential to find life in the world beyond, particularly when it is making a real and lasting impact in the lives of other young people.
Our enterprising team of students successfully launched the first pilot within schools, their own ‘Raise Dough: Bake a Difference’ initiative on Monday 25 March, just in time for the Easter long weekend! Well done to Kira Delaney, Isobel Campbell, Sofia Whatmough, Jessica McKeown, Alannah Winder and Lucinda Maher who raised over $3,000. A special thank you also goes to Ms Elizabeth Green who worked closely alongside the students to facilitate this wonderful opportunity.
Easter
As Easter is upon us, I encourage Yr 10 to reflect on the immense growth that they have had this term, and to look forward to the last few weeks of the term rested and ready to tackle their remaining assessments and school commitments. Our Easter Assembly on Tuesday was a wonderful reminder of the special connections and reflections that Easter calls us to draw upon, whether this be spending time with family, going on an exciting Easter egg hunt or visiting friends. A special thank you to Marlon Giacco who performed a moving Cello piece for students to spend time considering what Easter means to them. Wishing you all a Happy Easter!
