Year 10
Rowing in Yr 10
Redlands offers a multitude of Summer Sports, with Rowing emerging as a prominent choice this season. Rowing demands dedication and commitment, with student athletes spending hours on the water meticulously propelling their oars through each stroke to improve their performance session after session. A significant cohort of Yr 10 Rowers demonstrates their passion and endurance by participating in this challenging sport each week. These skills culminate in impressive displays at the numerous regattas they compete in throughout the season.
“This season in Rowing has been one of my favourites. The amount of grit and perseverance I have seen especially in the young Rowers has been admirable. I have repeatedly witnessed the losses of both junior and senior crews, but in true Redlands spirit, we have always kept going, kept fighting, kept rowing.
Rowing is not an easy sport, if it were everyone would do it. But for those willing to put in the effort, they get a much greater reward; a family. I have made so many friends since I started Rowing in Yr 6, we have gone through heaven and hell together, and I will forever remember the time I spend with them.”
– Katie Budden, Yr 10

The Double Meaning of Emojis and Acronyms
Please find here an article written by the AFP-led Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE) urging parents to understand the double meaning of Emojis and acronyms.
It is really informative and offers some guidance around having honest and open conversations about what they communicate, and what is being communicated to them. This could help prevent them falling victims to predators, many who pretend to be children or teens.
“That’s why having a healthy dialogue with your children is the best defence you can have.”
National History Challenge

The National History Challenge is a research-based competition for Australian students. It gives students a chance to be historians, researching world history, examining Australia’s past, investigating their community or exploring their own roots. It emphasises and rewards quality research, the use of community resources and effective presentation.
Students can explore this year’s theme of ‘Crisis and Response’ in any area of History of their choosing and prepare a product to share this exploration.
If you are interested in signing up as either and individual or as a team please contact the History Coordinator, Mr Chris Allen at callen@redlands.nsw.edu.au. Or if you would like to know more about the challenge visit the National History Challenge website.
