Year 10
International Women’s Day
For International Women’s Day and beyond, let’s all fully #EmbraceEquity.
This week, the Sports Department hosted a Redlands Sport Q&A with a number of past and present female athletes in conjunction with International Women’s Day.
The theme this year is ‘embracing equity’ and inspired Grace Durrant (Yr 11) to do something for the students which highlighted the challenges still faced by women in sport today, Mr Ellis and his team delivered a wonderful event.
The panel members:
- Renae Garlepp (Camino) – current Redlands Director of Coaching: Basketball. Renae has a rich history in Basketball with a long career in the WNBL, she has battled through a number of injuries and is currently regarded as one of the great up and coming female coaches.
- Jemma Donoghue – Redlander (2018) Jemma is the current 1st VII Netball coach, whilst also being a Training partner with the GWS Giants Netball team. Jemma made her Suncorp Super Netball debut in 2022, and was also named in the Australian U21 Netball team last year.
- Tatum Bird – NSW Waratahs – Tate is one of the first 30 women contracted to Rugby Australia. Tatum has played across the world in her short rugby career representing Australia & NSW at Junior 7s levels.
- Suzy Walsham – Suzy is an accomplished athlete who represented Australia at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Suzy still currently holds the U18 & U20 1500m Records, and more recently has been competing in the Towerrunning World Championships.

YouTube – We ALL rise with more eyes
A challenged world is an alert world. Individually, we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions – all day, every day.
We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world.
2023 Redlands XC Training

Make a Splash for a Great Cause!
The Balmoral Swim Schools Relay Challenge is back! On Sunday 2 April from 8am-9am, local schools will come together to raise funds for the Children’s Cancer Institute, increase awareness for this important cause, and most importantly, have fun participating in an open water swim relay.
Here’s how it works: each team consists of four swimmers, and each swimmer will swim a 200m leg of the relay. Participants can choose to swim in their year category or an older category, and the entry cost is just $20 per swimmer.
Don’t want to swim? No problem – you can still support the cause by donating to the Redlands fundraising page to help raise funds for the Children’s Cancer Institute.
This is a fantastic opportunity to come together, have some fun, and raise funds for a great cause. So, gather your teammates, come along to Balmoral Beach, and make a difference in the fight against childhood cancer.
We can’t wait to see everyone there! Register your team now and join in the fun!
