Winter School Update

Last week, I had the pleasure of spending a few days with the incredible group of Yr 10 students attending 2022 Winter School at the Redlands High Country Campus in Jindabyne. Numerous comments from the staff included how impressed they were with the students in attendance. Their willingness to step up and support their peers, support the staff, take ownership for their mistakes and their enthusiasm in contributing to team tasks were mentioned on several occasions. The students used class time wisely, spent their evening study time attending to upcoming assignments and students were embracing their time on the snow and their freedom and responsibilities in a dorm setting.

Several student comments were similar to these below:

” I realise how lucky I am to have this opportunity and I’m very thankful for this experience”

” I love the atmosphere at Winter School and how we support one another”

” I realise the new level of expectation and responsibility that comes along with this opportunity and am enjoying this new experience”

” The teachers and staff down here are really incredible and supportive, they are so nice!”

For me, I was extremely impressed with the genuine connections students made without their cell phones at dinner, their focus in completing class tasks when given individual time and their general ownership over keeping their space clean, their equipment in order and responsibly managing their intense timetable. I was able to join the beginners group and felt very much behind the incredible progress this group had already made in a short week on the snow. It has been a successful start to the term and I look forward to hearing about their progress and growth as the term unfolds.
