Athletics Carnival
Next Tuesday, students are to be present for the day and arrive on the Junior School Oval no later than 7:00am for attendance. Busses depart at 7:15am. Students are asked the following:
- Be present and participate throughout the day
- Wear their Sport uniform or House colours for spirit
- Bring clothing to layer as the temperature may fluctuate throughout the day and we will be outside
Man Cave Reflections
This week, half of our cohort participated in the Man Cave presented by 6 very different, dynamic and unique youth workers and counsellors who have devoted their lives to helping shape young people’s future. Goals of the day included:
- learning how gender stereotypes impact their attitudes and behaviour
- Meeting diverse male and non-binary facilitators
- Learning to constructively express their thoughts and feelings
- Connecting to their values and strengths
- Leaving with tools and resources to support their personal wellbeing
- Defining values-based visions for the people they want to become
Students took away two strategies in particular: the check-in and the shout-out. Both were incredibly powerful tools used yesterday to support students in being vulnerable with one another, expressing any concerns or celebrations on their minds and recognising and highlighting strengths in one another. The importance of honesty, trust and inclusivity were themes throughout the day, as well as the need to get to know one another before judging one another. An overwhelming number of students asked for more opportunities like this one and are seeking further opportunities for connection.
The positive engagement and open-mindedness was extremely impressive and yet again, the incredible young people we are privileged to work with each day gave us an enormous amount of energy as we were able to watch them connect, grow and broaden their own perspectives throughout the day.
Subject Selection Wrap-Up
Thank you for your support from home and for your communication throughout this subject selection process. Students have now completed their last step, submitting their HSC or IB class preference selections this week. For any student still feeling unsettled with their decision or this process, we ask them to reach out to their Year Advisor for a follow-up conversation.
Students were asked to step up this term and they did just that. Their maturity throughout the many information sessions and individual meetings with Deans and Heads of Department was exceptional and the feedback from all staff has been overwhelming positive. As a cohort we have been discussing impressions recently and Yr 10 are owning their impressions and how they want to set themselves up for senior years.
