Paul Dillon Young People, Alcohol and Risk Taking: Looking After your Mates

Focussing primarily on alcohol, this introductory session attempts to debunk some of the myths in this area, particularly around how to look after friends. Accurate, up-to-date and credible information will be provided to assist young people to make healthier choices. The latest prevalence rates of alcohol and other drug use by Secondary School students will be discussed, with an emphasis on ‘positive norms’, i.e., how many young people choose not to drink alcohol or use other drugs. Basic life skills will also be discussed around alcohol-related emergencies, including knowing when to call an ambulance. Yr 10 will receive this presentation during P1 and P2 on Wednesday, 11 May.

Dr Tessa Opie Parent Seminar and Student Workshops

Further information regarding Dr Tessa Opie and her seminar for parents and workshops for students came out in a letter to parents today from the Deputy Principal, Mr. Sean Corcoran. Please refer to this letter for further information.

Yr 10 Vaccinations 2022

Each year NSW Health works in partnership with schools to offer the vaccines recommended by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) for adolescents as part of the school vaccination program.

The following vaccine will be offered for Yr 10 students: Meningococcal ACWY vaccine on 26 May, 2022.

Parent Information Kits that include an information sheet, consent form and privacy statement will be handed to students in Week 2 to bring home to parents/guardians. To consent to the vaccination of their child, parents/guardians are advised to:

  • read all the information provided
  • complete the consent form, including signing their name next to the vaccine/s they would like their child to receive
  • return the completed consent form before Friday 13 May. Students are to drop off the consent forms to the Student Services Office.

Parents please ensure;

  • your child eats breakfast on the day of the school vaccination clinic
  • your child brings a mask to wear whilst in the clinic
  • your child does not attend school if they are unwell or if they have any symptoms of Covid

Absent students

Please note that, to improve vaccination completion, students will be offered a catch-up vaccination at a subsequent clinic. They do not need to go to their GP for the missed vaccine.

Parents/guardians who do not wish their child to receive the vaccination should return the uncompleted consent form.

A Record of Vaccination will be provided to each student vaccinated at each clinic as a physical card. Details about vaccinations given at school will also be uploaded to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) to support complete vaccination histories. Parents can obtain this through the myGov website or the Express Plus Medicare Mobile app. (Anyone aged 14 years or older has to get their own statement.)
