Year 10

Congratulations Kristian!

Congratulations to Kristian Kokkinis who won the Week 1 Science Competition which was to put 32 pencils through a plastic bag without water leaking out. Kristian successfully did this and this can be seen in the picture below. Well done!

Wear it Purple Day

Yr 10 embraced Wear it Purple Day last Friday which is a day on which schools, workplaces and organisations across the country wear purple to raise awareness for a variety of LGBTQ+ issues such as discrimination and bullying, and to celebrate diversity. Yr 10 students throughout the day updated their zoom with a ‘Wear it Purple’ zoom background to acknowledge the significance of this day. Ms Dalton’s 10 Roseby Red completed a Kahoot on the History and right of the LGBTQ+ community in Australia and Internationally.

Minus 18 who initiated the ‘Wear it Purple Day’ is an organisation based in Victoria, which provides support to young queer people across Australia, by hosting events to create a sense of community, inclusion and acceptance. They furthermore provide education and training to workplaces and schools (including Redlands!) and have a great website with lots of information for both young people and adults.

Welcome Fedora!

Fedora Hamori joined the Yr 10 cohort this week. She is joining Redlands, along with her sister Sara (Yr 8) all the way from Austria. A big thank you to all the students in McDouall Blue who did an amazing job welcoming  Fedora to the Redlands Community with the assistance of Mr Fabian Byrne.

Mullets for Mental Health

Black Dog Institute’s Mullets for Mental Health has encouraged some of our Yr 10 students to shape and grow a mullet for the month of September to raise much-needed funds for mental health research. Fundraising for this wonderful cause allows better research into the early detection, prevention and treatment of common mental health disorders.

I have set the target of $2000 for Year 10 however we would love to fundraise more.

If you would like to contribute to one of the students who has ‘styled-up’ a mullet, please access the team through: https://www.teamblackdog.org.au/fundraiser/RedlandsYear1020215428

Friday Night Live!

The Arts Captains Maddie Hunt and Felix Abrahams are organising a “Friday Night Live” event on Friday 10 September at 5pm, with ‘LIVE’ performances. Streamed via Zoom, the event hopes to showcase several students from each Year performing a 2-3 minute act.

Students wishing to be involved should submit a video of their act to the Friday Night Live assignment page in the iLearn Student Leaders course. It can be Vocal, Theatre, Instrumental, Dance, Comedy, Rap,  Poetry reading – anything to showcase your talent and creativity.

Performers will then be chosen to take part on the night. Unfortunately, there can only be several acts per year group the acts chosen will be diverse, entertaining, and have an amazing repertoire of performances.  It would be great to see Yr 10 be as creative as possible and submit their audition videos!

Submissions will remain open until next Monday.
