Winter School

It has been a busy and adventure packed week at Winter School. The Campus now well and truly feels like home:

The scenery and animals around here are awesome. I’ve been watching the kangaroos. We also saw an echidna right outside our dorm!” Amelie Heard.

It has been really fun living in a community and spending time with everyone. I really enjoy having dinner with everyone in the hall.” Jacob Gold.

Staff have already commented on the fantastic and positive attitudes of the students.

In the first full week of the program, students were kept busy with two complete days of classes then three days of skiing in the morning and academic classes in the afternoon. Despite the busy schedule and rules, students are already noticing differences between classes here in the residential setting and classes in Sydney.

“There’s strict rules but it’s way more chilled than school in Sydney.” Grace Matthews.

On Thursday afternoon students explored Jindabyne and stocked up on snacks for the mountain. A full day of skiing and snowboarding was had on Saturday. Many have already improved in their skiing and snowboarding skills, exploring greater parts of Thredbo than ever before.

My instructor Sam took my group everywhere on the mountain!”  Madeleine Wilson.

Saturday was also the first time students were able to free ski with their friends in their small groups with a number of check-ins throughout the day.

Despite the energy spent on snow, it was soon replaced by s’mores galore during Saturday’s bonfire night. There’s also been lots of cake to celebrate the birthdays of three students this week. On Sunday students and staff enjoyed a much-needed sleep-in and then filled the seats at Jindabyne cinema for a screening of The Lion King . Sunday night was the Winter School Trivia Night where everyone’s brains were tested and challenged with sports, music, maths and all sorts of general trivia.

With an expected dump of snow this weekend, we’re looking forward to some more great experiences on the mountain.
