This is Redlands
Welcome back. The School has quickly sprung back to life with a number of significant student and community events taking place as this week has unfolded.
Earlier this week I was delighted to attend the Redlands Annual General Meeting where our Chair of the School Board, Principal and Chief Financial Officer presented a positive and engaging account of our progress, achievements and accounts through the challenges of a pandemic year. It was lovely to chat with the wide variety of passionate Redlands Directors and Members who were in attendance.
It was also a pleasure to welcome parents of some of our youngest students into the Preparatory School this week as their children make the important transition from Redlands House. This event provided parents with the opportunity to meet and chat with our Principal and Head of Preparatory School, along with connecting with the key staff who will be guiding, challenging and supporting their children’s education.
ANZAC Day was commemorated earlier in the week with a moving Secondary School Assembly that featured first hand experiences of those in the service of our country along with some personal and equally impassioned student reflections. Redlander parent, Major Hayley Hummerston, Redlander Major Jean March Grant and Redlands Director and former army officer, Reverend Timothy St Quintin each recounted their personal experiences of active duty and what ANZAC Day means to them. On this day we gave thanks to the many men and women who gave their lives, along with those that have served and are still serving in times of both peace and conflict.
These events provide a mere snapshot of the wide variety of opportunities our community has to engage with our School and we look forward to welcoming more of our community back onto the Campus as Term 2 unfolds. Thank you to those parents that I met at each of these events for sharing your time and feedback with me.
Redlands is a school in the Anglican tradition that seeks to give students the opportunity to understand the Christian faith in a relevant and accessible way. The Redlands Parents’ Prayer Group provides our current parent community with the opportunity to come together in prayer. The Group is now meeting in Week 4 of each Term in the David Armstrong Room at St Peter’s Church (with parking located on Waters Rd), with the next gathering scheduled for Thursday 13 May from 8.00-9.00pm sharp. Please contact Sally Swan (mum to Annabelle Yr 12 and Adelaide Yr 7) at swanlsally@gmail.com for further information.
I remain grateful for the continued guidance and support our community provides and, as ever, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Community Engagement team should you have any feedback, suggestions or questions.
