Service and Social Engagement

Are you Travelling in the Coming School Holidays?

During your travels, we would be grateful if you could collect hotel or airline toiletries as we will be having collection points in the Junior and Secondary School offices for donations in the first few weeks of Term 2. These items will be donated to Every Little Bit Helps who provide toiletries to men and womens’ shelters, people experiencing domestic violence as well as refugee centres.

Cambodia Fundraising

After another very successful Battle of the Bands night with so many amazing performances, the Cambodia 2019 team have successfully raised a total of $2377.87, a great start to their ultimate target.

Students have a personal fundraising target of $750 and through out the year they will undertake individual and team projects to raise the funds. At the end of the year, students will undertake a Service and cultural exchange trip to Cambodia. They will spend some time living with a rural community and contribute to constructing communal facilities using some of the funds they have raised. Additionally they will visit M’Lop Tapang, a not for profit founded by Redlander Johnny McGinley over 15 years ago. We have been returning to visit them every year as they exemplify positive and substantial contributions that can be made by a community based organisation. Our 2018 Cambodia team were able to make a contribution of over $26,000 to the education and health programs that M’Lop Tapang provide in Sihanoukville.

Wayside Chapel Visit

On Monday 15 April, during the school holidays, a small group of interested and engaged students will be attending a morning session at the Wayside Chapel in Potts Point to learn about the work the Wayside does to provide those of our community who are sleeping rough with a safe space and amenities such as showers and emergency clothing, as well as information and referral services within the inner city. While most of the service they offer the community require adult volunteers, this will provide our students with a deeper understanding of the role they play and how individuals can make a meaningful contribution in support.
