Mary’s House Walk: Sunday 27 October – 9:30 am

Redlands has recently started supporting Mary’s House, a local and completely community-funded organisation who provide immediate critical care, safety and shelter, and then access to legal and financial services, to women and families impacted by domestic violence.

On Sunday 27 October, Mary’s House is holding a walk to raise awareness and funds. The 10km walk starts at St Leonard’s Park, heads towards Balls Head Reserve, Waverton and returns via McMahons Point to finish back at the park. We are inviting students and their families to sign up to join the Redlands team. Registration costs $85/adult and is free for those under 18. To sign up or donate to support the Redlands team and Mary’s House, please follow this link.

We look forward to having a strong Redlands presence at the walk.

The Great Book Swap for Indigenous Literacy Foundation: Friday 1 November

The Indigenous Literacy Foundation invests in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities to provide the tools and resources they request to shape the direction of their children’s future. They run three core programs including: Book Buzz that aims to develop pre-literacy skills and familiarity with books for babies and toddlers, Book Supply that gifts books that aim to interest and engage the Community in reading and sharing books together and Community Publishing that supports adults and children to write and illustrate their own stories in their own language.

On Friday 1 November, the Secondary School is holding a Great Book Swap to raise money for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. This will involve students bringing in a gold coin donation and a book for the swap:

  • in Week 2 if they are in Year 7/10
  • in Week 3 if they are in Year 8/9/11.

Then, on Friday Week 3 (1 November), those who have brought in a book will get to enter the swap on the Fahl Garden at lunch and find themselves a new book to read! Other fun activities will happen on the day – watch this space!

The Christmas Drive: Tuesday 26 November

This year at Christmas, Redlands is supporting Share the Dignity’s appeal: It’s in the Bag. Share the Dignity is a women’s charity in Australia that works to make a real difference in the lives of those experiencing homelessness, fleeing domestic violence or doing it tough. Our HSC cohort will be running the drive and further details will come!
