Service

Matthew Talbot

On Monday morning we were provided with the opportunity to participate in the Mathew Talbot service based in Woolloomooloo. Mathew Talbot, founded by St Vincent De Paul, is a support service for homeless men which provides shelter and their access to essential services including meals.

We departed school at 6.30am on Monday morning and once we arrived, we helped other volunteers to set up the dining hall with cutlery for the breakfast service, available for both men residing in the shelter and from outside. We also had the responsibility of packing up the dining hall, this included clearing plates and wiping down tables before our return to school by 8.20am.

We all really enjoyed participating in the service and it was a great way to start the day. The men were all so friendly and grateful and it was such a heartening and rewarding experience to be involved in. It caused us to reflect on the hardships affecting others, homelessness as a local and global issue and the importance of community services. We recommend everyone looking for ways to get involved with service at Redlands to sign up. If you are looking to sign up, organise a group of three and email Ms Riley your names to volunteer, or for any other enquiries.

Mother’s Day Classic

On Sunday 8 May, Redlands will be participating at the Mother’s Day Classic to honour and support the 1 in 7 women diagnosed with breast cancer. This year is an extra special year for the Mother’s Day Classic community as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of getting active for breast cancer research. So tell your friends, recruit your siblings, enlist your family and join us for a special day out!

Balmoral Swim

It was terrific to see Redlands families and friends down at Balmoral Beach on Sunday morning for the Balmoral Swim Schools Relay Challenge. Our teams represented the Redlands exceptionally well, and we raised over $1000 for the Children’s Cancer Institute. Thank you to all the students who competed and families who donated.
