Redlands School Sleep-Out
Final preparations are being made for our Yr 10 Sleep-out. We will be developing awareness and empathy for the issues surrounding homelessness. We have over 100 students and 10 teachers who have currently registered for the event. Our evening will begin with a warming soup dinner followed by some guest speakers and a movie before we retire to our sleeping bags. This year we have chosen to support a local Youth Crisis centre, Taldumande, and also Orange Sky Laundry who provide support to the homeless on the streets of Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. Students are encouraged to dress warmly and BYO some cardboard boxes for protection.
Matthew Talbot Winter Donations
We are seeking donations for the Matthew Talbot Hostel in Woolloomooloo. The Hostel provides accommodation and support services to people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. These services can include nutritional meals, clothing, showers and basic medical assistance. Redlands teachers and students from Yr 11 attend the Hostel every Monday morning to assist with breakfast service. At this time of the year we collect donations to help through the winter months. We are looking for new items of underwear such and socks and thermals along with toiletries like shampoo, hand sanitiser, deodorant and moisturiser. Each Tutor group has been issued with a collections box and challenged to fill it to the brim. Students can bring in donations any time before the holidays and also in the first few weeks of Term 3.
Redlands@Home Sports Round in Support of Breast Cancer Network Australia
Unfortunately, due to the inclement weather this week, the sporting grounds at Macquarie University are closed on Saturday, and we have had to cancel our Redlands@Home Pink Sock Charity Sports Round in support of Breast Cancer Network Australia. Some sports have been able to relocate their matches to other venues and students are still encouraged to wear their pink socks to all games this weekend. (Please check Redlands Pulse to find updated match times and venues.) Students and parents are still welcome to bring baked goods to venues to share with the community and collection tins will still be made available at these locations. A BBQ lunch will be held on the Senior Campus on Monday 25 JuneĀ in support of Breast Cancer Network Australia. Students are encouraged to bring money to purchase food on this day.
Student-led Performance Night
Finally, a big congratulations to Yr 12 student Erin Pacholke who organised a very professional music and theatre performance night and raised over $300 for Headspace.
