Secondary Sport
Let the Games Begin!
We are pleased to announce that Redlands Sport will resume in full capacity at the beginning of Term 3. All representative and non representative training and competition activities will resume (excluding Waterpolo, which is yet to be finalised). There will be a range of protocols and requirements specific to each sport, venue or competition that all students, staff, officials and parents/spectators will need to abide by. The details of the requirements are still being finalised by each sporting organisation, venue or host school. It is clear that maintaining social distancing where possible and ensuring we maintain a high degree of personal hygiene (hand washing) will be a critical priority throughout the Term 3 Sport season. More specific details regarding Term 3 Sport protocols will be made available in the coming days. Please keep an eye on Redlands Pulse for the most up to date details related to Sport draws, trainings and protocols for Sport in a COVID-19 environment.
I would like to thank the Sports staff for their effort and commitment over the last few weeks with getting all of the details and requirements for sport up to date in such a short period.
We thank all of the parents and carers for their assistance and patience as we navigate these changes to ensure our students can continue to get valuable learning experiences through Sport at Redlands.
Athletics
We will continue with Athletics training tomorrow afternoon (Friday 26 June). This will be the last session of the term. We will be continuing with Athletics on Friday afternoons during Term 3.
Football
We have completed the trials and trainings for Term 2, and we have seen some great improvements through both the Boys and Girls Football programs! We are very much looking forward to the return to regular two trainings per week beginning Tuesday 21 July (Term 3, Week 1). The updated training schedule will be posted on Redlands Pulse – Football in the coming days, as will the Winter Football ISA Draw.
A reminder for all parents and students that Football is a representative sport and as such, Redlands Football takes priority over other commitments on Tuesday, Thursday and for the matches on Saturday. We understand that some students compete at a high level outside of school Football and these students are free to meet with Mr Kindred to discuss their loading.
Parents are reminded that if they are collecting their child/ren from training venues they need to be there prior to the supervising teachers departing the venue. If you are running late, your child/ren will be brought back to school as we are unable to leave students at the venue unsupervised.
We will be running Football training during the last week of the holidays (13-17 July). Please ensure you register for these sessions by following this link (students will need to log into Google with their school email account). There are also Speed and Strength trainings throughout the holidays on Monday, Wednesday and Friday (register via the link also).
Hockey
All teams will be announced by the end of term so that we can move into team training immediately in Term 3. Further updates regarding the Term 3 training schedule and competition structure will be provided by the end of term.
A reminder that there will be Hockey Skills sessions in the last week of the holidays, please follow this link to register for these sessions.
Netball
It has been a great few weeks of Netball to see out the end of Term 2. We are excited to recommence the regular two trainings per week (Tuesday and Thursday) from the beginning of Term 3. This will see the introduction of morning trainings as well as afternoon. Each team may be training at a different time/venue to what they have been doing in Term 2. Please consult the Training Schedule on Redlands Pulse to ensure you are aware of your two training sessions.
Training will begin on the morning of Tuesday 21 July, which is the first day back on campus for students. The following teams will have training on that morning from 6.45-8.00am: Inter A, Inter B, Senior 3rds, 9B, 8A, 8B and 7B. The training schedule outlines the venues for each of these teams.
Players in the 9A team, please note your Thursday training session has moved from the afternoon to the morning. This is due to coach availability. This has been updated on the new training schedule.
Senior and Intermediate Team Selection
Unfortunately, we have not been able to run selection trials in our regular format for the Senior and Intermediate teams. This has been due to the restrictions in place that have prevented regular match play from occurring. To finalise teams, students have been selected based on their performance and coach feedback from the 2019 season, as well as through observation of skill and coach feedback during the Term 2 training sessions. There may be some flexibility for movement during next term, but we do ask that all players and parents be understanding of the current circumstances and please be ensured that this process was done in the fairest way possible for all players. These teams will be released on Redlands Pulse on Friday 26 June. All players are asked to look at this closely and ensure they attend the training sessions for their team from Week 1 of Term 3 onwards.
Holiday Netball Training
During the third week of the holidays, some Netball training sessions will run for all players. These will take place on Tuesday 14 July and Thursday 16 July. Whilst these are optional sessions, we encourage all players to attend to ensure they are conditioned and prepared for a return to play. Players are welcome to attend both sessions, or just one. Please see below for the times and venues for these sessions:
Yr 7: 9.30-10.30am, Lang Gym
Yr 8: 10.30-11.30am, Lang Gym
Yr 9: 11.30-12.30pm, Lang Gym

Yr 11 and 12: 7.30-8.30am, Lang Gym
1st VII: 7.30-9.00am, Dunnet Hall
All players who wish to attend are asked to register via this linked Google form before the end of Term 2.
Non-Rep
Non-Rep sport will recommence in Week 1, Term 3 (Thursday 23 July). All non-Rep sport programs will continue for the first seven weeks of Term 3 before students move into their Summer Sport choices. Further details will be provided to the students registered for non-Rep by the end of the week.
Speed and Power Sessions
Over the Winter holidays, a number of Speed and Power sessions will be run from the Redlands Fitness Centre. For all students wishing to attend these sessions, please make sure to tick the appropriate dates in this form provided. Please be aware that this sign up will close at the end of the week.
On their selected dates, students will need to enter the school via Military Road as the Waters Road entrance will be closed due to constructions.
Students will need to bring their own towel and a water bottle.
Tennis
Tennis students have now been training for the past five weeks and it was pleasing to see over the weekend how many of our Tennis students have improved their Tennis skills. This week there will be no training on Saturday 27 June due to the commencement of the school holidays, students will only train in their allocated Tuesday or Thursday timeslot. Students are encouraged to book a court and play Tennis over the holiday period. There is also the option of attending the July Holiday Tennis Camps that our coaching provider, Grand Slam Tennis, are running for us. For more details and to register, please click here – Groups 3 and 4 should select the Development Camp on Monday and Tuesday and Groups 1 and 2 should select the High Performance Camp on Wednesday – Friday. Further information regarding Winter Tennis in Term 3 will be available as it comes to hand.
