Virtual Cross Country Challenge
It was a inspiring to witness the volume of students and other members of the Redlands community who took on the challenge of completing a 5km run, jog or walk for their House last week. We had over 250 students take part, not including all the students that ran multiple times to better their own PB and all the additional family members and pets who also joined in on the event. The virtual Cross Country event showed the power that sport has to keep people connected and keep people healthy during these times.
Congratulations to all students who took part. The results can be found on Redlands Pulse.
Basketball Challenge
Well done to Emilie Bessell who this week won the Finger Spin challenge by spinning the basketball on her finger for 15 minutes! She hopes to go for the world record of 4 hours and 15 minutes.
Holiday Challenges
There are four holiday fitness challenges available on the Secondary School Sport iLearn page (under the Fitness tab). Some of these challenges can be completed over a number of days and range in difficulty and all are time based (ie: you are trying to get the fastest possible time). In order to be awarded any prizes you must have parental consent to film your attempts and email them through to sports@redlands.nsw.edu.au (you can enter as many times as you like).
These challenges are also open for parents to attempt!
Prior to completing your attempts please ensure you have completed an adequate warm up. We suggest 10-15 minutes of dynamic stretching and jogging. We also encourage you to do some stretching after you have completed all your challenge attempts. Best of luck!

Inter-Sport Challenge: Students will be competing in a sport vs sport challenge (Rugby vs Football vs Netball vs Hockey vs Tennis vs AFL vs Non-Rep/out of season). One challenge will be released in Note Day every Thursday. Entries will close on the following Tuesday and must be sent through to sports@redlands.nsw.edu.au. Keep your eye on the leader board which will be published in Note Day each week to see which sport is on top each week.
Weekly Sport Training Session: Each representative sport will provide a weekly session plan complete with videos and explanations designed to help students improve specific skills relevant to their sport. Students will complete the session in their own time and send their results or a time lapse video of them completing the session to their relevant Sports Administrator.
Weekly Sport Specific Challenge: Each representative sport will release a sport specific challenge for the students in their sport (ie. Football, Rugby, Netball, Hockey, Tennis, AFL etc). Individual leader boards will be published for each sport on iLearn. Students will complete the challenge in their own time and must send a video of their entry to the relevant Sports Administrator.
Podcast: Weekly podcast will be available on this day (may be released on a fortnightly basis – ie. Week A). Our first podcast which will be released in coming days is an interview with our Principal Mr Stephen Webber on the life lessons he has gained from sport and some stories of his own experiences with sport as a young man growing up. Stay tuned on further details as to how these can be accessed.
Rugby
There will be no Rugby Fitness session on Good Friday this week but all students are encouraged take up the Holiday Fitness Challenges (details above).
For any Redlands student who has access to gym equipment such as dumbbells, kettlebells or bands please feel free to email me (jgooding@redlands.nsw.edu.au) directly and I can provide At Home workouts. A number of our Senior and 1st XV boys are currently running off individual programs.
All Rugby students are encouraged to actively participate in the Challenge Games and the Training videos that can all be found on iLearn. There will be additional videos posted throughout the holidays covering more technical aspects along with speed and strength focused sessions.
There will also be general sport based challenges running throughout the holiday period for all students to participate in, it would be great to see how our Rugby community goes in comparison to other sports in the school, so get out there and have a go!
