Basketball
Round 1 saw some great results across both the Boys and Girls Basketball programs. Girls Basketball saw both the Junior A and Junior C teams travel to St Spyridon, winning 29-22 and 24-9 respectively. The Inter B, Inter C and Junior B Girls caught the bus to the Central Coast, who are notoriously a very strong Basketball school particularly in the Girls division. Central Coast proved too strong against the Inter B and Inter C teams, however, our Junior B Girls came away with a 22-18 win. The 2nds Girls played against the SACS 1sts Girls team, which was a challenging game, but there are some very promising signs for this team in the upcoming season. The 1sts Girls played against St Paul’s, and by the second quarter had put a large gap between the two teams and ran away with a convincing win.
The Boys A line travelled to play St Gregory’s and it was great to see a clean sweep across our 13A, 14A, 15A, 17A and 1sts Boys in the first round. Both the 17A and 1sts had nail biting two point wins. A tough three point shot late in the game secured the win for the 17As. Our B Boys teams came up against St Augustine’s in what was a very competitive round, which saw another two point win for the 2nds and solid wins from the 17B, 15B and 13B Boys teams. The 13D, 17C, 3rds and 4ths all achieved their first win of the season against Oakhill, whilst the 15C Boys had a great start and a very convincing win against St Augustine’s.
We have our Dunnet Hall round this Saturday with the following teams playing: Junior A Girls, 17A Boys, 1sts Girls and 1sts Boys. It should be a great round involving both the Junior School and Secondary School students.
Netball
There will be a Friends of Netball AGM on Monday 4 November at 6.00pm in L1.2. If you would like to join the Friends of Netball Committee I would strongly encourage you to come along. If you are unable to attend the meeting but are interested in joining the FoN please email Mr Cameron Ellis.
Rowing
Last weekend saw the first of our regattas, with the majority of the program competing at the Mosman Middle Harbour Time Trial. Our older crews made up of Yrs 9, 10 and 11 students raced over the 5000m course while the younger Yr 7 and 8 students covered the shorter 3000m course.
All crews acquitted themselves well, with wins in the School Girl Yr 9 Coxed Quad Scull (Georgia Verschoor, Charlotte Scamps, Alana Mansfield, Caterina Croll and Lucy Horton), School Boy Yr 9 Coxed Quad Scull (Patrick Walker, Daniel Close, Matthew Fry, Finn Woodward and Sebastian Tang), School Boy Coxed Quad (Aaron Drake, Matthew White, Nick Wilkes, Tom Morris and Liam Batemyr) and School Boy Year 10 Coxed Quad (William Thomas, Beau Davies, Janne Stiefel, Charlie Henderson and Alex Bush).
Our top four Senior Girls and Boys attended the NSW Institute of Sport Time Trial held on the Nepean River in Penrith, where they competed alongside current reigning world champions and rowers aspiring to make the national team. Elizabeth Holtheuer (Yr 9) was outstanding, finishing with the fastest time in the Women’s Under 17 Single Scull while her brother Alex Holtheuer (Yr 10) finished 4th in the Men’s Under 19 Single Scull and Girls Captain of Boats, Maddi Howard, finished 6th in the Women’s Under 19 Single Scull. After this, the students combined to form what is our current Boys and Girls 1st Coxed Quad crews to then race in an internal time trial over the 3000m course against each other.
All of the above results are very promising at this stage of the season and we are already looking forward to our next regatta!
Tennis
On Saturday, our Tennis students faced all four seasons in one day! A number of our students in the 8.00am timeslot played their first Tennis match for the season. They were able to put the skills learnt at training into practice, successfully winning plenty of points and games. We had a number of strong performances from teams 1, 2, 6, 7, 8 11, 20 and 22 with a number of students barely dropping a game in their clean sweep of sets. A fantastic achievement. It is pleasing to see students enjoying themselves while on the court and working as a team both in doubles and in supporting from the side line.
Touch Football
We had some mixed results this past weekend with the Touch Football teams. Our 1sts had two very strong hit outs in Kinross with a close 4-5 loss to the host school and then a strong 7-1 win over Oxley College. The girls have been working hard at training since last term and are looking forward to a strong season. Our 2nds started the season with a dominant 7-1 victory over Central Coast Grammar School, they will be looking to continue their form this weekend against St Andrew’s at Macquarie Uni. Our 3rds also travelled to Kinross and, similar to the 1sts they had a close loss 3-4 to Kinross, then bounced back with a strong 9-2 victory over Oxley. Our 4ths put on a dominant display against Central Coast, taking their match 8-4. They have a bye this weekend but will be back in Round 4 taking on Oxley at Oxley.
Our Juniors have shown great improvements in what ISA is expecting to be a close competition across all grades. Our Junior A and B teams travelled to Kinross, with the As going down to Kinross 4-8, then they tussled all match in a close loss to Oxley, going down 3-4. Our Junior Bs had two very close matches, unfortunately losing 0-1 to Kinross, and then losing 1-5 to Oxley. Both teams will be looking to bounce back this weekend when they take on Scots All Saints College at Macquarie Uni. Our Junior Cs were very impressive in their first outing against Central Coast Grammar, taking the match 3-0 in what was a very entertaining match. The Junior D team unfortunately lost to Central Coast Grammar 3-9, despite the score line they showed great improvement throughout the match.
