Australian Rowing Championships
This week we had 14 members of our Rowing team representing the School at the Australian Rowing Championships out at Sydney International Rowing Centre. This regatta signifies the highest level of competition for the sport, with athletes representing clubs and schools from around the country. These types of competitions provide an opportunity for students to compete on behalf of their peers. These forms of competition provide the perfect environment for students to develop invaluable skills in resilience and grit. Students develop the ability to be calm under pressure and develop a laser type focus on personal, team and school performance goals, an attribute that will bode well for them in future years.
These competitions also provide an opportunity for our students in the wider sports program to get behind a common cause. Similar to a supporter barracking for their beloved AFL team, our students take ownership of the others who are competing for their school at higher levels. This camaraderie and joint support of a higher goal is very unique to sport.
Our rowers have had one of the most successful seasons across the 2018/2019 season with countless medals and podium finishes at a variety of regattas. We look forward to reporting a full list of results from the Australian Rowing Championships next week.
Below is a photo of students from across different years and sports coming in early before class to watch and support Elizabeth Holtheuer compete in the A final of the U17 Single Scull on the live stream of the Australian Rowing Championships.

The Redlands team had a nail biting six all draw on Friday night against Ascham. Despite the draw and the tight context, the girls have finished on top of the table and will head into this week’s Semi Final against Queenwood, looking to finish on top again. Best of luck to the team.
Netball
Additional skill development training will run for Yrs 7-12 on Wednesday mornings in Lang Gym from 7.00 – 8.00am, this is a great session and is open for all players.

Tennis
Saturday was the final round of the NSTA summer competition. All teams had the opportunity to play in either a final or a playoff match. Congratulations to Teams 1, 5, 12 and 20 who made it into the Final. All students played really well and challenged their opponents in every point with many games going to deuce. The Team 1 boys, Aymon and Sebastian, pulled off an exceptional win with both boys winning their singles matches in a tie-break. Team 5 got off to a great start winning their doubles match but were unfortunate to go down in both singles to finish the day as runner ups. Team 12 and 20 also had close matches but unfortunately the opposition were just better on the day. A great morning of Tennis. All students should be proud of their efforts over the term. Winter Tennis trials continue this week in preparation for Saturday matches which start Term 2, Saturday 4 April.
