Secondary Sport
Redlands Rhino – Weekly Fixtures
From the Head of Sport
Over the recent holiday break, we conducted a Winter Sport pre-season camp for our highest-level representative teams across Football, Netball and Rugby at the NSW Sport and Recreation facility in Berry. This was a fantastic opportunity for our students and coaches in these teams to enhance the skills and team structures of play in an intensified live-in training environment. I was very impressed with all of our students who all pushed themselves throughout the four days physically and mentally, especially our Yr 12 students who completed all the trainings and up to or over six hours of study each day. Some highlights included the morning running sessions through the paddocks and hills of the property, the moment of quiet reflection on top of the hill at dawn on ANZAC Day and the fun interaction shared between our Sports staff and students. I would like to thank all of the coaches and staff who attended for the dedication and commitment to the Redlands Sports program.

Sailing
On the first weekend of the school holidays, Ben Harrington, Ella Delaney, Zac Nisbett, and Mia, Liam and Ethan McFarlane headed up to Scone for two days of Cadet Sailing experience. They were not sure what to expect when they got to Scone as they were sailing on three old restored boats on an unknown piece of water. On arrival in a strong 20 knot breeze on Lake Glenbawn, they were greeted by Mr Colin Selwood and Mr Paul Smart (Principal at Scone Grammar), a couple of other parents, and 13 keen Scone Grammar students. Most did not have much sailing knowledge, but they were eager to get on the water. The three skippers, Ben, Ella, and Zac, along with some of the Redlands parents, worked with the kids on rigging the boats and understanding their operation. The skippers and Colin then let the kids take turns crewing in the boats in fairly blustery conditions. The wind didn’t let up over the entire two days, which made for some exciting beginner sailing for the students from Scone.
It was a great opportunity for our students to meet like-minded individuals with a keen interest in Sailing in rural NSW.
Surf Life Saving
Congratulations to Olivia Donoghue (Yr 9) who competed in the National Surf Life Saving Championships during the holidays. Liv finished 15th overall in the open water swim in what were some tough conditions.
Winter Sport
Winter Sports are now in full swing. Students and parents are reminded that training schedules are available on Redlands Pulse. If students are going to be absent from any training sessions or Saturday fixtures, please let your respective Sports Administrators know, the earlier better. Injured students are still required to attend training to support and assist their team and coaches where possible. They are also encouraged to attend all home fixtures to support their team. It would be great to see as many students as possible out supporting out respective 1st teams.
