Rugby
Welcome to the 2024 season, We encourage all parents and students to have Pulse notifications “on” so that they are up to date with all information for the season as it is released!
Students should now have sessions present in their student calendar for the remainder of Term 1. We begin field sessions this Thursday 14 March, as per student calendar.
Each student within the Rugby program will have the following requirements:
2 Training Sessions per week. (Tuesday and Thursday afternoon sessions) and Saturday game commitment.
Students are encouraged to attend the Fitness Centre more regularly to complement their development within the sport. The Fitness Centre is open to all each morning.
Please note, Opens Rugby will have an extra compulsory Fitness Centre commitment. This is also scheduled on the students’ calendar.
Trainings
Students are to wear full Redlands sports uniforms. Students are to bring footy boots (no metal studs) and mouthguards to each session. If students play in any other protective wear they are encouraged to bring these to training – headgear/ shoulder pads.
Students will be unable to participate in contact drills without mouthguards.
To Note
Season 2024 will see a change to the tackle height rule for all levels of Community Rugby across Australia. We’re thrilled to share that the tackle height has been reduced to below the sternum, making Rugby Union safer and reducing the risk of concussion significantly. These new rules have been trialled across the world including in NZ, England, France and have seen really positive results.
All rugby students will undergo concussion briefing of updated school policies before the end of Term 1. This will also be communicated with parents/careers.
We are aiming to provide opportunities in both 15s and 7s format this season. A format update and draft draw will be provided as soon as it is communicated from the ISA.
Please make use of the free tickets from Waratahs home fixtures this season! (Check Pulse Rugby page).
If students are unable to attend their scheduled fixtures/training sessions they need to complete the Redlands Sport Absentee Form, this can be found on either:
