Athletics

On Tuesday, Redlands had 27 students represent ISA at the NSWCIS Athletics Carnival. This was a great achievement and a testament to the hard work and dedication of all our athletes throughout the 2018 season. We want to make special note about two athletes from Tuesdays Carnival, Alex York (Yr 10) and Leo Colin (Yr 10).

Alex competed in five events on the day and broke the 15 Years Girls Triple Jump record with a PB of 12.08m, Alex also took out the 15 Years Girls High Jump and Long Jump; she finished 3rd in the 200m and 4th in the 100m. This is a tremendous result and Alex should be extremely proud of her results.

Leo Colin finished 3rd in the 16 Years Boys 800m, however it was his efforts after the race I would like to make mention of. At the NSWCIS Carnival, there were a number of para-athlete events which encouraged all levels of different disabilities to compete. After Leo’s 800m race, he was asked by a blind para athlete from St Luke’s Grammar School to assist him with his warm down, and Leo, without hesitation and with willingness, assisted this blind athlete with a few cool down laps, holding onto a rope so the blind athlete could follow his footsteps. This was an incredible act of great sportsmanship, kindness and compassion shown by Leo.

Some other highlights from the NSWCIS Carnival included:

  • Jasmine Chubb (Yr 11) finished 3rd in both the 17 Years Girls 100m Hurdles and High Jump
  • Emma Mahon (Yr 9) finished 2nd in the 15 Years Girls 3000m and 3rd in the 15 Girls 800m
  • Gus Miller (Yr 9) finished 3rd in the 15 Years Boys High Jump
  • Ellis Teudt (Yr 11) ran a blistering 11.15s to take out the 17 Years Boys 100m
  • Our Senior Boys Relay (Michael Moore Yr 12, Ellis Teudt Yr 11, Gabe O’Sullivan Yr 12, Cameron Pascoe Yr 11) ran a quick 45.08 to finish in 2nd place (0.08 seconds behind 1st).

We have a number of students who will be taking part in the NSW All School Athletics Championships from Thursday 27 – Sunday 30 September. We wish all these athletes the best of luck!

A final massive thank you to Mr Nick Walker and all the coaches from the Mosman Athletics Club for their help and support this season. This has been an incredible Athletics season for Redlands with a number of students running, jumping and throwing personal bests!
