Secondary Sport

It has been great to see so many students enjoying their sport, we are speaking to the students about their decisions and how they have to learn how to push yourself, you have to learn to leverage the power of your decisions and you they’ve got to learn how to take actions when they don’t feel like it. you don’t have to make decisions with your goals, you don’t make decisions with logic.

95% of our decisions are made by how we feel at that moment, and that is part of the problem, students need to take control of the moment and leverage the power of your decision making. ‘Do you feel like getting up?’ ‘Do you feel like going to training?’ ‘Do you feel like doing those extra training sessions?’ no you probably don’t. We make decisions based on our feelings and sometimes that robs you of your joy and opportunity.

If you accept the fact that you may never feel ready and you may never feel confident and that you may never feel courageous and that’s okay, but you can still push yourself forward  and you see yourself becoming the person that takes action or speaks even though your voice is shaking, you’re the kind of person that has bias towards moving instead of a bias toward thinking, guess what happens… you have developed the skill of confidence and courage.

‘the only person who can tell you ‘you can’t win’ is you, and you don’t have to listen’
Jessica Ennis-Hill

Bus Transport

When travelling on Redlands transport the Redlands school rules are in place and students should be always upholding the values of the school:

  • Have good behaviour, safe behaviour and appropriate language at all times.
  • Follow the driver (and supervising staff) instructions at all times.
  • Obey the transport rules and regulations at all times (seat belts must be worn at all times).
  • Leave the bus how they found it (no rubbish, no mess).

Students who fail to meet the standards of the above will face school disciplinary action.

The NSW All Schools will be held at Sydney Olympic Park. It will be split into two competitions based upon age groups. There is no qualification process and any athlete from Redlands can enter, participate and compete in this event. This is a great experience for our Redlands athletes to verse other athletes from schools across NSW and get use to a formal competition setting.

The 16 – 19 Years NSW All Schools Track and Field Championships will be Saturday 23 September – Monday 25h September and the 12-15 Years NSW All Schools Track and Field Championships will be Friday 6 October to Sunday 8 October.

16 – 19 Years Registrations and event information can be accessed here

(Registrations close 8 September (this Friday) at 12pm.)

Ages 12–15 – Registrations and event information can be accessed here

(Registrations close Friday 22 September, 12pm)

Redlands Athletics Head Coach Mr Nick Walker and Redlands Coach Mr Rich Frost will do their best to get out to the events to support athletes; however, students will need to get their own way to and from Sydney Olympic Park for their event.

If you are registering for the event, please communicate that with Mr Walker (nwalker@redlands.nsw.edu.au) and myself.

Basketball

We are now into the second week of the Redlands Basketball trials. A reminder that all students in Basketball will have Saturday trials again this week, Saturday 9 September. All basketball information will be sent to basketball families via pulse notifications. All Basketball trials are compulsory for all students registered for Redlands Basketball.

Strength and Conditioning testing: Touch Football

Students who are currently trialling for 1sts teams have been emailed their schedule with added Fitness Center sessions. Students should be attending 1x session a week, Monday or Wednesday afternoons or Wednesday Morning.

Students in Junior and Intermediate programs this week have conducted some on field fundamental movement tests. As reiterated to students, these tests will not have a weighing on students grading into teams, rather to help improve what we as coaches can offer to support student athletic development.

There are both ‘on field’ and ‘in gym’ tests to complete. Head of Strength and Conditioning – Mia Lundquist, will be collating results to help shape gym programming specific for Touch Football students, as well as running injury intervention programs for our sport over the remainder of the season.

These programs will support students in becoming better athletes. We encourage all Touch football students to make themselves available over either a Wednesday Morning (6.30 – 8am), or any Lunch times in the Fitness Center, between now and the 14th of September to complete the ‘in gym’ tests.

If students wish to connect to pathways for Touch Football outside of school please reach out. The school has strong connections with Norths Touch where students can get involved in representative programs and refereeing.
