Secondary Sport

Over the coming months we are going to begin cultivating leadership opportunities for students in sport as a crucial development for their personal development and future success. By providing avenues for students to exercise their leadership skills within the sports context, they can learn valuable lessons and acquire essential qualities that will benefit them beyond the playing field. We have fostered a number of strategies to foster leadership in sports through the following ways (which will continue to evolve):

  1. Leadership Roles: encouraging the selection of team leaders who can serve as role models for their peers. These individuals should exhibit strong leadership qualities and be responsible for motivating and guiding their teammates.
  2. Mentorships: establishing mentorship programs where experienced athletes or coaches can guide younger students. This creates a supportive environment for skill development and helps instill leadership traits through hands-on guidance and feedback.
  3. Team Projects: encouraging students to collaborate on team projects or initiatives that require them to work together and make collective decisions. This cultivates teamwork and allows emerging leaders to develop and showcase their abilities.
  4. Workshops: by running workshops or seminars focused on leadership development. Inviting guest speakers along to share their experiences and insights on effective leadership in the sporting world.
  5. Volunteering & Community Engagement: encourage students to participate in community service projects related to sports. This allows them to take on leadership roles in organising events, coaching younger athletes or advocating for sport-related causes.
  6. Decision Making Opportunities: providing students with opportunities to make decision that impact their team or sports. This could involve determining team strategies or contributing to fundraising efforts.
  7. Recognition & Rewards: by acknowledging and rewarding students who demonstrate exceptional leadership skills, we motivate others to aspire to leadership roles.

By implementing these strategies we can foster leadership opportunities for students in sport, equipping them with valuable skills, confidence and a sense of responsibility that will benefit them both in their athletic pursuits but also any future endeavours.

‘The most valuable of all education is the ability to make yourself do the thing you have to do, when it has to be done, whether you like it or not.’

Bus Transport

As a school we pride ourselves on the way in which our students participate and train in their chosen fields, providing opportunities for all students to participate in a range of activities is something that we will continue to do. Providing transport to those activities is something that we do as a school, this is a reminder that when travelling on Redlands transport the Redlands school rules are in place and students should be always upholding the values of the school:

  • Have good behaviour, safe behaviour and appropriate language at all times.
  • Follow the driver (and supervising staff) instructions at all times.
  • Obey the transport rules and regulations at all times (seat belts must be worn at all times).
  • Leave the bus how they found it (no rubbish, no mess).

Students who fail the meet the standards of the above will face school disciplinary action.
