Secondary Sport

It was great to see the start of the Winter Season take off last weekend, despite some inclement weather there was a lot of sport on over the weekend.

Parents & Carers last week received an email containing the Redlands Concussion Protocols, which can also be found on the ‘Key Documents’ section of Redlands Pulse – Secondary School Sport. A reminder to all that these protocols are for both a return to school and a return to sport. Students who have a suspected concussion are asked to seek medical attention at their earliest convenience.

Over the next few weeks we will be sharing a number of articles surrounding all things sport and we will hear from some key personnel within the Redlands Sporting community about what they see as the benefits of sport.

Football

It was a fantastic Round 1 for Redlands Football. Despite the wet weather all games went ahead as planned, with some fantastic results for our Redlands teams. With an almost clean sweep in the boys, we finished with one draw, with all other teams winning in Round 1! The Girls also had a fantastic start to Round 1, only losing one game out of the five fixtures. With a great start to the season, we are looking forward to seeing our teams in action this Saturday at Macquarie University fields this weekend. A reminder that the fixture details are available on the Redlands Pulse – Weekly Fixture tab.

Congratulations to the following students who were selected into the ISA Open Girls Football team: Jasmine Black, Madison Barwise, Arkie Riches and Zoe Twining (shadow player). A further congratulations to Keian Murphy and Hugo McKay who were selected into the Open Boys team, and Liam McFarlane and Jaiden Murphy for selection into the 16&U Boys squad.

A huge congratulations to Jasmine Black who was a member of the Sydney FC Women’s team for the 2023 Season. The team won the A League Grand Final on Sunday in front of a record breaking crowd. Congratulations Jasmine!

Hockey

It was a fantastic Round 1 for Redlands Hockey! A big thank you to the Friends of Hockey for putting on a morning tea for the entire Hockey community, a great initiative to start the season!

The First XI hockey team took the field early on Saturday morning, braving the heavy rain, for their first game of the season against Central Coast Grammar School, one of our key rivals from the 2022 season. The girls played well from the outset, especially as many of them have not played together before and we all know that it takes a while to get used to the way that everyone plays and to work out how to successfully play together as a team. The girls did really well with many moments of beautiful teamwork to get the ball up the field. Our defence also held strong with some lovely tackles from Serafina Scotting and gorgeous saves from Megan Kirkpatrick in goals. The game ended with a 4-2 scoreline to us after three stunning goals from Jess Van Extel and one impressive goal from Lexi Jones. Jess was named player’s player. It’s looking promising for the season ahead!

The Junior Girls team had a fantastic start to the season on Saturday! With many of the team still learning the ropes they put on a fantastic team performance. The team played against Central Coast Grammar School and for the first half it appeared the teams were very evenly matched. The Redlands Juniors came out very strong in the second half and dominated the game, finishing with a 6-1 win, with a second half performance that showed this team is going to be a force to be reckoned with for the season. A special mention to Sahara Nicholas who scored a massive 5 goals in the game and could not be stopped by the Central Coast defence.

We look forward to seeing our teams in action this Saturday at Barker College. A reminder that the weekly fixtures are available on the Redlands Pulse – Weekly Fixture tab.

A huge congratulations to the following students who have been selected into the 2023 ISA Hockey team: Eloise Trueman (Open Girls), Jessica Van Extel (Open Girls), Heidi de Saxe (16&U Girls), Iona Gait (16&U Girls) and Megan Kirkpatrick (16&U Girls). Wishing them all the best of luck in the NSWCIS Championship!

Tennis

Despite the wet weather over the weekend, we had a great start to the Winter Tennis season! Development Squad players and the NSS teams were able to compete at home and away for the first time, as well as the ISA players against St Andrew’s Cathedral College. Hopefully this week the sun will be out and everyone can be on the court.

A quick reminder that wet weather calls are made at 5:45am for Tuesday and Thursday morning sessions and 6:45am/8:45am for the Saturday morning 8am/10am sessions respectively. If you do not receive an email or notification then, please assume training/matches are still on. We will reach out if we have to cancel last minute due to any sudden downpour and scores will be reflected in the draw as partial play. All home venues have covered areas for the players to wait under in case the weather clears up.

Good luck for Round 2!
