Secondary Sport
What a week it has been in Sport. Yesterday we were privileged to host an International Women’s Day – Women in Sport Q&A in Redlands Hall, this was a fantastic opportunity for the students of Redlands to ask a number of past, present and future athletes what it has been like to compete at the highest level. A huge thank you to Renae Camino, Suzy Walsham, Jemma Donoghue and Tatum Bird who took time out of their day to answer the students’ questions and for Grace Durrant (Yr 11) who put together some insightful questions.
It has been great to see so many teams making ISA Semi Finals last week, with some really close results. This week is the ISA Finals weekend with a number of exciting prospects this weekend. I will make special mentions to the Girls 1st V Basketball & 1st VI Touch Football teams, both teams have had incredible season, with the Basketball Girls going through their season undefeated, and the Touch Football Girls having an incredible last few weeks, knocking off Barker College 1 for the first time in seven years. Both these teams are coached by some incredible coaches in Kate Seebohm (Basketball) and Jordy Parsonage (Touch Football). As a school, we are incredibly fortunate to have both Kate and Jordy on our coaching staff, both women are amazing role models for their respective programs.
Best of luck to all teams competing this weekend, we are encouraging all students from their respective programs to get out and support their teams. When doing so students need to be in full school uniform or full Redlands sports uniform.
Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.

Basketball
It was fantastic to see all of our teams competing on Saturday in the semi-finals at Penrith Basketball Stadium. With nine teams playing in the semi-finals, it was a massive day for Redlands Basketball. We had four teams win on the day, with a lot of close contests. It was very pleasing to see the consistent effort in all games from the Redlands teams, with all teams competing until the final buzzer. Congratulations and best of luck to the following teams who are playing in a final this Saturday at Penrith Basketball Stadium: 1st Girls, Inter A Girls, Inter B Girls, Junior B Girls, Junior C Girls, 15B Boys, 15C Boys, 15D Boys, 14B boys, 14D Boys and 13C Boys. A huge achievement to have 11 teams through to the Finals on Saturday.

You can read more about Jasmine’s fantastic opportunity here.
Rowing
There are some great photos on the following link:
Last weekend saw the entire Rowing program attend the ACT Junior Championships on Saturday 4 March and the ACT Head of the Lake Regatta on Sunday 5 March. The Redlands rowers and coxes represented themselves very well, with rowers winning 29 team medals – a combined 118 individual medals across the weekend, almost one medal per student.
This particular weekend is a significant highlight for the Rowing program with around 130 students from Year 8-12 departing during the day on Friday and some outstanding parent support with the parents organising three different dinner bookings for well over 150 people on Saturday night.

Sailing
This will be the last week for most of our sailors except, for those that are competing in the NSW State Championships, it’s been a short and busy term but thank you to all the students and parents for the help and enjoyment that has been brought to the program. This week for Redlands Sailing the students in the Elliotts were able to practice their slow boat control and were being introduced to spinnakers doing windward and leeward courses managing to set jibe and drop the spinnakers within a set distance. The pacers now having the teams racing competition approaching rapidly are focusing on the tactics of teams racing and boat handling.
I want to congratulate those that have been selected for the initial squad for the NSW Teams Racing Championships next week at Woollahra Sailing Club, Rose Bay. There will be more details coming out shortly to the squad.

Tennis
We would like to commend our Summer Tennis players for a great competition season so far! This will be the last round before NSTA finals, and we are proud to see so many players improving their match play and technique for singles and doubles. Please remember that Development Squad and competition players will still have a Saturday commitment in Week 7 Sat 18 March (Redlands Autumn Fair) so if you are not able to make this fixture, please let Ms Caitlin Wong know ASAP. A further reminder that TNB players will continue to play on Saturday until the end of the term.
This is the final week of training, so we encourage students to make use of the additional Friday session to make up for missed sessions and get in more practice for the upcoming Winter Tennis season. We hope to see you in Winter Tennis, if not the next Summer Tennis season!
Please contact Ms Caitlin Wong should you have any questions regarding Summer Tennis or the upcoming Winter Tennis season.
Touch Football
Semi finals played across Blue Mountains and Macquarie Uni resulted in success across our Junior A Boys and Senior 1sts Girls, with both teams progressing into the Grand Finals on the back of strong performances. A special mention to the Junior A Girls and Senior 1st Boys who both bowed out over the weekend with hard fought losses.
Our Senior 3 Boys have had the week off finishing the regular season top of the table, automatically qualifying for the Grand Final. The Boys head into the final on fresh legs, hoping to finish off a dominant season with a win.
We encourage the wider school community to get down to Macquarie Uni and support the Grand Finals fixtures this weekend.
Finals Saturday 11 March at Macquarie Uni Fields
- 9:00am: Senior 3 Boys V Oakhill.
- 10:15am: Jnr Boys V Augies
- 12:45pm: Senior 1st Girls v Kinross
See you Saturday!
Keep an eye out on Kayo Live stream later this week to see some familiar faces playing at Touch Football Australis, National Touch Football competition. Junior As coaches Josh and Keaton are both playing in the Men’s Open division. We are lucky to have such high-quality coaches supporting the growth of Touch Football at Redlands!
Goodluck to all!
