Netball

There were a number of close games last weekend, with some falling the way of Redlands and others not. This weekend sees a number of teams in the hunt for finals with must win victories to secure placings, if you are interested in seeing your position currently please take a look at the ISA Website – Netball.

All teams will continue to have Thursday training until Thursday 18 August, if teams are successful in making it to the finals they will then train both sessions (Tuesday & Thursday). More information will be emailed to the Netball community once the Finals draw has been released.

A reminder that tickets are now on sale for the Netball Presentation Dinner, please ensure you click the link in the photo below to book tickets.

Football

It was great to see our teams back in action in Round 9 on Saturday with some clear weather! Best of luck to all of our teams this Saturday as they move into the final round of the regular season, Round 10 of the ISA Competition. A reminder to the teams travelling outside of Sydney this week (2nd Girls, Junior A Girls, Junior Gold Girls) that permission must be provided on the engage portal for the bus on Saturday.

For the teams who have progressed through to the semi-finals (top 4 in each division), they will continue to have both Tuesday and Thursday training next week. For the teams who have not progressed, students will have Thursday training only. If you would like to see where your team is placed you can visit the ISA website.

The End of Season Presentation Dinner will be going ahead on Tuesday 6 September and it’s time to secure your tickets! Please follow the link below to purchase your tickets for the event:

Hockey

Best of luck to our Hockey teams as they play against SACS this Saturday in Round 10, the final round of the ISA competition. Hopefully two great results this weekend will see both of our hockey teams progress through to the semi-finals. The current standings can be found on the ISA website.

If any students or parents have any photos from the hockey season please share them with kseebohm@redlands.nsw.edu.au

We can’t wait to celebrate the season with our Hockey families on Thursday 25 August at Balgowlah Bowling Club. Please follow the link below to secure your tickets for the dinner. All members of the family are welcome to attend and celebrate the 2022 Redlands Hockey Season!

Congratulations to our Junior Boys AFL team who won the Junior Schools Cup on Wednesday!

We are looking forward to returning to Round 10 of AFL this weekend. Details around this weekend’s fixtures can be found on Redlands Rhino. Good luck to all our teams!

Tennis

With great weather over last weekend all ISA teams were able to secure a win for Redlands moving into the last weeks of the competition! A reminder next weekend (13th August) will be the Finals Week for ISA and Internal Competition players.

ISA Players can check the current leaderboard here (select division and select Ladder):

(ISA 2, 6 and 8 are currently in the running for Finals)

Internal Comp Players can access the leader board here.

A reminder for Round 10 (6 August) this weekend:

  • If you are unable to attend Saturday’s competition, please email Caitlin Wong by no later than 12pm on Thursday. Attendance is mandatory otherwise and particularly important for ISA players as this competition has very strict guidelines.
  • Please check the draw and playing pairs list to see when/where/who you are playing this weekend

Rugby

A bit of different one this week for Note Day with our mighty Under 13s deserving of a full Rugby Report after their match against Oxley. Coming into the weekend against a previously undefeated opponent and having not been able to train on grass for over two weeks, it was a tough proposition for our youngest Redlands Rugby Squad. From the opening kick-off, we were on the back foot, with an aggressive Oxley side dominating possession and using their strongest ball runners to smash into the Redlands D line. Under this amount of pressure, Oxley were waiting for us to break but, led by some amazing chop tackles from Chase Hindmarsh our boys hung tight and waited for their opportunity. Suddenly, with a great hit and rip from Charlie Reeves, the ball spat out and, without hesitation, was snatched up by Austin Durrant who sprinted down the sideline for a brilliant individual try. Redlands on the scoreboard, against the run of play.

Despite the try, Redlands struggled to get out of our half, with minor handling errors and penalties allowing Oxley to stay on attack and pressure our defence. It was up to the combination of Charlie Reeves at scrumhalf and Chase at flyhalf to not only combine on defence but launch our attack, with their quick passing able to break through Oxley and get Austin over for another try. From that point on, Redlands began to really get in their groove. Danny Gordon and Raf Rolon were everywhere in attack, long passes from Rupert Perry setting our wings away into space. In our forwards, despite missing our big ball runners in Sam Haley and Kai Feldmann, our pack did not miss a beat with Freddie Hart and Ted Huang making some monstrous runs off set piece and in broken play.

Ultimately, the Redlands Under 13s were too good, not only keeping Oxley scoreless and running in four tries in total. There were so many wonderful efforts and highlights, too many to count, but the main one for me was the cohesiveness of this squad and how they backed each other up. There was not a single try that went uncelebrated, with a pile of Redlands boys jumping in. Not one massive hit from Durrant or Hindmarsh that didn’t get celebrated with a pat on the back or a cheer from a teammate. This team will continue to grow and, despite being a long way off, I cannot wait to see the effect this group will have on our program when they eventually pull on that 1st  XV Jersey. For some of these boys, it will come much sooner than they expect.

Matches for this weekend will see us play St Andrews Cathedral School in make-up games after the initial postponement earlier in the season. All games will be played at our Home Fields of Macquarie so I could not be more excited to see the sidelines packed with our wonderful Redlands Rugby community.

Fitness Centre

With the start of Term 3, we now begin to see the transition between our Winter Rep. Sports and our Summer Season. This period is key for our Summer Sports athletes to begin preparing their bodies for the rigors of a full season and the Fitness Centre is a key space to fully utilise. Whether Rowing, Basketball or any of the other options for Summer, students must be physically prepared.  Fitness Centre is available to all students across the Term 3 Period with sessions tailored towards developing speed, fundamental movements, and power.

All students can access the morning sessions which run Monday through to Friday starting promptly at 6:30am and finishing by 7:45am. These sessions are for all Age-Groups and all Sports, so every student is encouraged to bring a mate along with them to the sessions.

Students are asked to make sure they sign in with one of the S/C Coaches or Mr Jack Gooding directly upon entering the space.

Students are reminded to bring with them the following.

  • A water bottle
  • Towel
  • Redlands PE / Sports Uniform

Sports and students are asked to contact the Director of Athletic Development Mr Jack Gooding jgooding@redlands.nsw.edu.au for any specific questions regarding these sessions.

Attendance at Sport

Can we please draw your attention to the following communication process regarding absence from sport:

  1. Parents are required to send an email to the appropriate Sports administrator prior to missing any training session asking for them to be excused
  2. Any student unable to attend a Saturday fixture due to illness, is required to submit a Medical Certificate to their Sports administrator by the Monday morning following the missed fixture
  3. Injured students are required to attend all training sessions and Saturday fixtures
  4. Failure to do any of the above will jeopardise a student’s eligibility for Colours, Pockets, and Awards & result in school disciplinary action

Please note that the first unexplained absence will result in a lunchtime detention with further unexplained absences escalating to a Friday afternoon Detention. Please refer to the Student Planner 2022 for full details on requirements for participating in a Representative Sport.
