Redlands Return to Sport – Week 8 Guidelines

In line with the community sport guidelines, we are now at the point where students who are over 16 and not double vaccinated will not be able to participate in training and fixtures that occur off campus. Can I please encourage you to provide the school with your child’s vaccination status in order for them to continue to participate in Redland Sport.

A reminder that all students registered for basketball will have a commitment this Saturday 27th November, the details of which can be found on Redlands Pulse. For students playing against St Andrew’s Cathedral School or Barker College please check the Covid protocols carefully ahead of the game on the weekend. Any student over the age of 16 is required to be full vaccinated to be eligible to play in the games against other schools on Saturday. There will be no basketball during Term 4, Week 9. We wish all families a safe and enjoyable holiday break.

Sailing

Our Redlands sailors have been back on the water for the past few weeks, battling strong winds and challenging weather conditions. Last weekend was no exception when our year 9, 10 and 11 sailors competed in the first round of the Redlands Sailing Series. Racing in over 50 km/h winds, Katina Casimaty and her crew Dasha Sychova were the overall champions of the day. They were closely followed by Alissandra Braden and her crew Isabella Treloar and Alex Gibbs and his crew Sholto Mirrlees-Black.

This Saturday, 27 November, will be the final training session of 2021. This week we have some wet weather forecasted, however sailing will still be on. Please be sure to bring some warmer sailing gear and a raincoat to training this week. In the event that the weather prevents us from being able to go on the water, the training session will be shortened and we will run a fitness and theory session onshore. If this occurs, an email will be sent out the morning of the training session notifying everyone about the earlier finish time

On Saturday 4 December Rowing NSW is holding the Reindeer Regatta at Penrith. This is an optional regatta for all Year 8-11 rowing students. It is an opportunity for students to get in their first regatta in what has been an interrupted season so far. All suitable racing for our students is limited to the morning half of the regatta, meaning that this will be a half day regatta and transport will be provided. Further details have been emailed to families already that include the signup link below:

MOCK REGATTA (Year 7)

On Saturday 4 December from 7.00-9.00am we will be holding a mock regatta for our Year 7 students at Davidson Park which is located just under Roseville Bridge. Racing will be conducted internally with the coaches and myself selecting a number of different crews that we think will be evenly match to gain valuable race experience. Crews will battle it out against each other across a distance of 500m running the length of the park that will provide ample viewing opportunities for spectators. Transport is not provided for this however the rowing staff will have the boats and equipment mostly ready when the students arrive. There is also ample parking available at Davidson Park.

We appreciate that some families will already be taking advantage of the school holidays and have departed Sydney, so we ask that all Year 7 rowing students list their availability using the signup form found at the link below:

JANUARY ROWING CAMPS

Detailed information about the January camps is forthcoming but will most include a slight date change pushing both camps back a few days. This is a reflection to our need to relocate the camps to Mosman due to the Department of Education still having restrictions in place for overnight excursions as part of the Level 3 Covid plans. We had hoped that there would be more information about the holiday period but this has not been updated yet.

The new camp dates are as follows:

SENIORS (2021 Year 9, 10 & 11): Thurs 13/1 to Sat 15/1 & Mon 17/1 to Wed 19/1

JUNIORS (2021 Year 7 & 8): Thurs 20/1 to Sat 22/1

Non-Representative Sport

We hope students have enjoyed the variety of Non-Rep sports on offer this term. There will be no Non-Rep sport during Term 4, Week 9. In Term 1, 2022 we plan to return to the usual non-rep schedule if the restrictions allow for us to do so. Further information will be provided closer to the Term 1 return date. Wishing all families a safe and enjoyable holiday break.

Fitness Centre

To finish off the last week of the school sear the Redlands Fitness Centre will be celebrating with a Monday Morning Session dedicated to the Year Group with the largest attendance throughout the year – our mighty Year 7s.

It has been fantastic to see the students return to the Fitness Centre over the last couple of weeks and all of our Age-Groups have had some standout performers. A special highlight must go to the incredible Heid de Saxe (Year 7) who this week set a personal best, deadlifting an amazing 72.5kg for a whopping 11 reps! Both Luke and I would like to congratulate Heidi for achieving such a feat especially considering all of the work she has put in over Lockdown and into the Term 4 sessions.

Students must sign up via the Form on Redlands iLearn which will go live first thing tomorrow morning. Capacity for the session will be 20 Students so get in quick.

Luke and I could not be more excited to finally have a morning session after so long.

There will also be an additional session for our Year 8s on Monday afternoon as well.
