Secondary Sport Redlands Pulse

Athletics 

The Redlands Secondary School Athletics Carnival will be held on Thursday 17th June 2021 (Term 2, Week 9) at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre, there will be more information loaded onto Redlands Pulse – Athletics in the coming weeks (as well as training information posted in Note Day). 

Congratulations to Emma Mahon (Yr 12) who represented NSW at the Australian Track & Field Championships, Emma ran in the 1500m and the 5000m events, finishing 4th in the U20 5000m event with a great time of 17:39.57. Congratulations Emma!

Basketball

Congratulations to the following students for their selection into their respective NSW State teams in 2021:

  • Emilie Bessell – she has been selected into the U16 NSW Metro State Basketball team. She will be travelling to Perth to compete at the Australian National Championships in July, we would like to wish her the best of luck at the championships.
  • Yola Reinecke – she has been selected into the U20 NSW White State Basketball team. She will be travelling to Mackay to compete at the U20 Australian National Championships in May. Good luck Yola.
  • Meera Coburn – she has competed in the U18 NSW Metro State Basketball team at the Australian National Championships over the April School holidays where her team finished 6th in the country. 

Football

All Football teams will have a trial match/training this Saturday 24th April, the details for these games can be found on the Redlands Rhino (on Redlands Pulse). Please arrive 30 minutes prior to the start time indicated on the fixture in your Redlands Football uniform.

A reminder that the most up to date Football information can be found in the Football Handbook which is available on Redlands Pulse under the Football page. Round 1 of the ISA Season will commence in Week 2, Saturday 1st May. The draft season draw can be found in the Handbook.

Hockey

There will be trial games this Saturday 24th April at Barker for all of our Hockey teams. The details for these games can be found on the Redlands Rhino (on Redlands Pulse). Please arrive 30 minutes prior to the start time indicated on the fixture.

Netball 

We are excited to be beginning the 100th Year of Netball at Redlands this weekend, all teams will be playing trial matches against Barker College (with Barker hosting all fixtures), the schedule can be found on the Redlands Rhino

We have had some exciting visitors to training this week, with NSW Swifts Captain Maddy Proud as well as 2021 Netball Captain Olivia Donoghue assisting with the Junior Skill Development Sessions on Tuesday afternoon, as well as current Australian Diamonds & NSW Swifts teammate Sophie Garbin & Sarah Klau assisting the Intermediate Skill Development Sessions. Whilst Sophie and Sarah won’t be on had to assist each week, Maddy will be at a number of sessions across the Netball season to assist all teams and coaches. 

Swimming 

We are excited to have Redlands representatives competing for ISA at the NSWCIS Swimming Championships next week (Monday 26th April & Tuesday 27th April), the following students will be competing across both sessions.

  • Xander Halfen – Yr 9
  • Chloe Jennings – Yr 9
  • Holly Smith – Yr 7
  • Erik Scott – Yr 11
  • Ruby Voyce – Yr 9
  • Loch Wilding – Yr 10 

We also want to take the time to congratulate Olivia Donoghue (Yr 12) who in April travelled to the Gold Coast to compete at the National Swimming Championships, this was a fantastic achievement for Olivia to achieve in her final year of school! 

Tennis

Welcome back to Winter Tennis for Term 2. Teams will be finalised this week and announced on Monday. Just a reminder that only some students are required this Saturday for trials, these students will be notified separately. All students should be ready to play on Saturday 1 May. Touch Football 

At the end of Term 1 we had a number of girls trial for the ISA Touch Football teams both in the U15 and Open selections. This was a great day of competition for the girls to experience, we are excited to announce that the following Redlands girls made the ISA Team to compete at the NSWCIS Touch Football Championships later this term. 

  • Olivia Donoghue – ISA Open Girls
  • Sophia Hill – ISA Open Girls 
  • Katie Wightwick – ISA Open Girls
  • Samantha Wightwick – ISA U15 Girls
