RPFA

Teacher Appreciation

Part of the mission of the RPFA is to promote a strong sense of community among parents and caregivers, students and faculty. At Redlands, our teachers are a crucial part of that relationship and facilitate the vital connection between learning, community and growth. One of the RPFA’s most important jobs is making sure our teachers and staff know how much the parent community appreciates them and recognises how hard they work. This week, our committee organised morning teas with pastries and fruit for our fabulous teachers and support staff in Prep and Junior Schools on Wednesday and in Secondary School on Friday. Our appreciation should not be limited to just one week. Be generous with your gratitude and encourage your students to do the same – thanks to all the class parents who organised cards and other activities!

Pink Sock Recap

Thanks to everyone who participated in Pink Sock Charity Day last Friday and Saturday, rallying support for breast cancer research. The Festival on the Fahl rocked the Senior Campus – where students enjoyed live rock band performances alongside a sausage sizzle, bake sale and more; Prep and Junior School students wore splashes of pink and donated gold coins; over 200 pairs of socks were sold at the Uniform Shop; Friends of Groups sold mountains of treats at various sports fixtures and we also had donations from parents via Humanitix. Funds are still being reconciled, but over $9,000 was raised for this great cause.

Second Hand Uniforms

Thank you to everyone who has continued to support our Second Hand Uniform Sales. We are looking into the possibility of holding another sale one weekend later this term… but we need more stock! If you have clean, current uniforms to donate to this cause, please drop them off to the Uniform Shop! We’d love to get more blazers in larger sizes, long sleeved white shirts, fleeces and tracksuits. Please note we are not collecting any items for recycling (eg old sports uniforms) at this time. Please also do not bring in: used socks; dirty, stained or torn items; items purchased from external parties (Marks & Spencer’s, Next) as we cannot sell these items and are running out of storage space.

Gala Ball

Purchase tickets to this fantastic black tie event to be held at the Fullerton Hotel (formerly the Westin) on Sat 12 Aug. You don’t need to organise a table to attend! Just nominate a Year Group(s) you’d like to sit with and Foundation will work their magic.

Walks on Tracks

Weekly guided walks around the northern Sydney area are organised by an RPFA volunteer. This is a great way to meet other Redlands parents and get in shape, plus a wonderful way to spend a morning discovering the many paths of the Sydney area.

The invitation for walks is open, so if you have friends or family who you think would like to come along, please feel free to bring them. Dogs are also welcome on most walks.

Next week’s walk on Wed 7 Jun will be from Waverton to Wollstonecraft. Meet at the corner of Bay Rd and Ross St in Waverton at 8.40am.

Any questions, please contact Ann Marie Kimber or call 0406 691 533.

Book Club

The Redlands Book Club is a group of Redlands parents – past and present – who share a love of reading. New members are always welcome! The Book Club meets twice each school term to discuss a book, rotating among members’ homes. Occasionally, outings are also organised to events, movies or shows that are tied in with books, including annual attendance at the Sydney Writer’s festival in May. If you would like to join Book Club, or simply want to know more, please contact Monica or Sabiha.

Our next meeting is Mon 19 Jun for morning tea. We will be discussing The Familiars by Stacey Hall. Books planned for Term 3 are: The Seven Sisters by Lucinda Riley and BABEL by RF Kuang.
