Festival of Redlands – Shining a Light on 140 Years – Saturday 19 October

The countdown is ON – just over 10 weeks to go until the gates of the Junior School open to host the Festival of Redlands.

As we celebrate 140 years of Redlands, this first-of-its-kind event will be a community-led day of games, sports, arts, drama, music, refreshments and a showcasing of our High Country Campus.

As the big day inches closer, our vision for a day put on for and by our community is slowly coming to life:

  • Kids (and adults) alike can bring out their inner Spiderman as they scale the Giant Climbing Wall.
  • The handball battle to end all handball battles will take place on the courts. Stay tuned for more details and contact us to register your interest to support.
  • Go back in time to see how you would’ve looked as a student across the years with the photo booth and treasure chest of various iterations of the school uniform over the years.
  • Weren’t able to make it down to Thredbo this year? Not to worry, Friends of Snow Sports is making sure you can still carve it up!”
  • EOIs are currently open to all of the Sports for what games you would like to host. Have an idea? Contact us.

Thank you to all those that volunteered to help cut the bunting flags that will be adorning receptions in the coming weeks. An extra big thank you to Kate Goodsall for leading the charge. In true community fashion, some Dance and Theatre Mums that are well versed with cutting and sewing fabulous costumes were connected to turn their attention to giving a new life to old school uniforms. Many hands make light work, and a good accompaniment to Olympics viewing!

Contact us if you would like to find out more about current opportunities to be involved with bringing the Festival of Redlands to fruition and the RPFA will be in touch!

Inaugural Giving Day – 21 August

Join the Giving Day Team

This is an exciting year at Redlands as we launch our major philanthropic campaign, Giving Day, to support the High Country Campus expansion and establish another means-tested scholarship in honour of Redlander, Coralie Amos OAM

The expansion of the High Country Campus includes staff and student accommodation as well as a sports field, and accommodation for a campus manager. Thanks to the incredible support of our matching gift donors, every donation made on the day will be tripled, magnifying the impact of your contributions significantly. Our goal for the day is to raise $400,000!

The success of this campaign hinges on the enthusiastic participation of our entire community. We are seeking volunteers who can assist us on the Day. It will be a lot of fun and a great opportunity to support the School and be part of the Giving Day Team! To find a time slot and be part of it, please use the link HERE.

There will be an optional information session on Thursday 15 August.

Unplugged Coding

Thanks to many parent volunteers, the Prep School students have a rich and varied choice of Wellbeing Clubs to attend at lunchtime. From construction through to friendships, these are a beautiful option in a playground that can seem very big at times! As well as a great opportunity to explore different interests.

This term welcomes the launch of a new Friday club, Unplugged Coding. This club explores coding basics through games, without using any devices!

Born from an interest in fostering the digital skills and safety of our children, Anita and Daniella’s aim is to promote problem-solving and critical thinking skills while having fun.

Their first session last week was great fun and is already attracting an excited following amongst the children! This week, they’ll be making binary bracelets – an activity they hope will especially engage more girls.

What a fantastic addition to the roster, especially amidst the growing conversation about promoting tech skills in our kids without devices.

If any parents or carers would like to join in facilitating an “unplugged coding” lunch club, please contact Daniella.

Book Club

The Redlands Book Club is a group of Redlands parents – past and present – who share a love of reading. New members are always welcome! The Book Club meets twice each school term to discuss a book, rotating among members’ homes. Occasionally, outings are also organised to events, movies or shows that are tied in with books. If you would like to join Book Club, or simply want to know more, please contact Monica or Sabiha.

We are pleased to announce the dates for our Term 3 Book Club meetings:

  • Thursday 22nd August 7:00pm – to discuss The Women by Kristin Hannah
  • Wednesday 18th September ~10:30am (exact time TBC) – to discuss The Other Side of Beautiful by Kim Lock

Please save these dates in your calendar!

We are looking for a meeting spot for our next meeting. Please contact Monica or Sabiha if you’re able to host.

The Week in Pictures

Redlands Prep did it again, cooking up kindness at Kids Giving Back! 30 young champs prepared 92 meals for Sydneysiders in need last Saturday, bringing to life their values of compassion and moral courage.

Kids Giving Back is hosting a mega cooking marathon on September 22nd. If you are interested in keeping the kindness cooking – please contact Daniella.

Yr 7 parent coffee at Sandy Bar Cafe yesterday morning, what a day for it!

Do you have event pics you want to share? Please send them to RPFA Note Day.
