Redlands Parents and Friends
Promoting Sustainability: Reducing, Reusing and Recycling Old Uniforms
Our children are passionate about protecting the environment and in Redlands classrooms, they continuously learn new ways to create a more sustainable world. For many years, the RPFA has been a key player in supporting that passion, collaborating with the school to implement uniform recycling programs as a means to reduce waste, and promote reuse and recycling. As we embark on the two-year changeover to the new uniform, the RPFA is once again stepping up to bolster the School’s endeavours toward more sustainable practices during the transition, and to lead by example for our children.
Old uniforms that the RPFA has collected will go on sale Thurs 7 March at 8am-10:30am at the RPFA unit, 1 Monford Place (just around the corner from the school uniform shop on Military Road).
Not only does the second-hand uniform sale minimise landfill, but all proceeds go towards the means-tested scholarship fund.
Please donate!! We are still collecting donations for the sale. We would love to receive second hand uniforms which are clean, good quality (something you would be happy to buy) and part of the current uniform.
Donations can be dropped at the Uniform Shop on Military Road any day except Tuesdays when the shop is closed. Please, no socks, no swimmers and no brands which are not sold by the Uniform Shop eg. M&S, Next.
The school’s Sustainability team will continue to collect old uniforms including those not suitable for resale for the recycling program in Week 7. Please check the Community Engagement section of Note Day for more information.
Coming Up
Wed 27 March at St Peter’s Cremorne at 7.30am. In the lead up to Easter, we invite you all to the Redlands Community Easter Reflection. As we all prepare for Easter, it’s a lovely way to pause, spend time with our Principal, Chaplains, teachers and members of all sections of our community in a casual and welcoming setting. A light breakfast will be provided (maybe including some Easter eggs). Prep and JS parents are welcome to bring their children.
And, for all the party-goers among us, details are in the works for our next community event to celebrate 140 years of Redlands. Friendship bands optional. Stay tuned.

Walks on Tracks
Weekly guided walks around the northern Sydney area are organised by Ann Marie, a wonderful RPFA volunteer. This is a great way to meet other Redlands parents and get in shape, plus a wonderful way to spend a morning discovering the many paths of the Sydney area.
The invitation for walks is open, so if you have friends or family who you think would like to come along, please feel free to bring them. Dogs are also welcome on most walks, look for the ???? below .
Walks are roughly 1 1/2- 2 hours and for those with the time we love to stop for a coffee afterwards. Yesterday, a great group met at the Woolwich Pier Hotel for a walk around Hunters Hill. What a nice start to the day.
We have planned all the walks for the term so mark your calendars. Next three shared here:
- Wed 6 March: Shelly Beach to Curly. Meet at Shelly Beach carpark for an 8.40am departure. ????
- Wed 13 March: Beauty Point. Meet at Orso carpark Spit Bridge for an 8.40am departure.????
- Wed 20 March: Waverton to Wollstonecraft. Meet at Coal Loader, Balls Head Dr Waverton for a 8.40 departure. ????
Any questions, please contact Ann Marie on 0406 691 533.
Book Club
The Redlands Book Club is a group of Redlands parents – past and present – who share a love of reading. New members are always welcome! The Book Club meets twice each school term to discuss a book, rotating among members’ homes. Occasionally, outings are also organised to events, movies or shows that are tied in with books, including annual attendance at the Sydney Writer’s festival in May. If you would like to join Book Club, or simply want to know more, please contact Monica or Sabiha.
- Next month we will be discussing The God of No Good by Sita Walker. The meeting is expected to be in the second half of March as an evening session. Stay tuned here for the date.
Behind the Scenes with RPFA: Meet your RPFA Committee
The Redlands Parents and Friends Association (RPFA) is a group of committed parents who support the broad activities of the School’s diverse community. The RPFA is your first point of contact for Redlands community events or support. Check back here each week to meet 2024 committee members and be inspired to get involved.

RPFA Five with Monika
Name: Monika Crennan
Role: RPFA Committee Member
Kiddos: Isabella (Yr 11) Aurora (Yr 9) and Amelie (Yr 2 at the local school)
If you could choose a RPFA theme song (or super hero), what would be the title name?
Shake it off – Taylor Swift
Why did you decide to join the RPFA, and what do you love most about it?
I have always been involved as a volunteer in different areas during my kids’ school years – class parent, reading support, Primary Ethics teacher, events, fundraising and as a year rep for the last three years. To be able to support the School at this level is an amazing opportunity. To get be at the centre and work with ideas, future plans and the staff. I love the connections and friends that I have made and the results we are getting as a great team.
What advice would you give to a parent or carer looking to get more involved in the School?
Look into the area that interests you – support as a volunteer in sports or the arts through the Friends of Groups. Join the coffee mornings to find out what is happening in your year and join other year parents to volunteer with. I will always recommend to become a year rep or class parent.
If you could trade places with your children for a day, what would you most want to experience?
The Drama program -such talented teachers and amazing curriculum. The variety of opportunities in this craft would be great to be a part of.
