Redlands Parents and Friends

Hip-hip, Hurrah!

It’s been a flying start to the year and the RPFA is ready to welcome you all to celebrate our community and Redlands 140th birthday at Twilight Drinks on Friday, yes THIS Friday 6pm. Tickets are still available you can book here.

The turn in the weather means that the event will now be going ahead under the shelter of Dunnet Hall. In true RPFA style, our amazing team of volunteers are busy decking it out to make it a truly fabulous atmosphere. Walks on Tracks

Weekly guided walks around the northern Sydney area are organised by Ann Marie, a wonderful RPFA volunteer. This is a great way to meet other Redlands parents and get in shape, plus a wonderful way to spend a morning discovering the many paths of the Sydney area.

The invitation for walks is open, so if you have friends or family who you think would like to come along, please feel free to bring them. Dogs are also welcome on most walks.

Walks are roughly 11/2- 2 hours and for those with the time we love to stop for a coffee afterwards.

We have planned all the walks for the term so mark your calendars.  Next three shared here:

  • Wed 21 Feb: Hunters Hill. Meet at Woolwich Pier Hotel 2 Gale Street Woolwich for an 8.40am departure.
  • Wed 28 Feb: Kirribilli to Pyrmont. Meet at the base of the stairs up to Harbour Bridge, Broughton St, Kirribilli for a 8.40am departure. Ferry back. (No dogs)
  • Wed 6 March: Shelley Beach to Curly. Meet at Shelley Beach carpark for a 8.40am departure.

Any questions, please contact Ann Marie on 0406 691 533.

Book Club

The Redlands Book Club is a group of Redlands parents – past and present – who share a love of reading. New members are always welcome! The Book Club meets twice each school term to discuss a book, rotating among members’ homes. Occasionally, outings are also organised to events, movies or shows that are tied in with books, including annual attendance at the Sydney Writer’s festival in May. If you would like to join Book Club, or simply want to know more, please contact Monica or Sabiha.

  • Mon 19 Feb: we will discuss The Seven Sisters by Lucinda Riley. All welcome even if you have not read or heard of the book

Behind the Scenes with RPFA: Meet your RPFA Committee

The Redlands Parents and Friends Association (RPFA) is a group of committed parents who support the broad activities of the Redlands School’s diverse community. The RPFA is your first point of contact for Redlands community events or support. Check back here each week to meet 2024 committee members or to find to how to get involved.

RPFA FIVE
with Secretary

Name: Jennifer Mast
Role: RPFA Secretary
Kiddos: Jack, Year 4 and Kate, Year 2

If you could choose a RPFA theme song (or super hero) what would be the title name?

Beautiful Day by U2.  “It’s a beautiful day, don’t let it get away” is a powerful message even in the gloomiest of times.

Why did you decide to join RPFA?

Our son, Jack, started Redlands House shortly after we arrived in Sydney from America. Volunteering as a Class Parent – knowing zero about the educational system in Australia or even where to get a good coffee – was a great way to learn about the School and most importantly get to know the Redlands community.  I continued as a Class Parent for several years and then moved into the Parent Contact Group Coordinator role for Prep School.  Joining the RPFA was a natural leadership progression and has been a great way to learn about other parts of the School, especially on the other side of Military Road, as well as make friends with families of different ages and experiences.

If you could trade places with your children for a day what would you most want to experience?

My children like to go on bush walks and explore nature.  While doing so, they often stop to make a fort or find some other creative play which envelops their whole sense of the world around them.  I would love to be able to spend time in their shoes, totally consumed by the make–believe play of the moment, without a concern about the time, tasks or temporal demands we adults are always managing.

The Week in Pictures

Check out all the photos from Week 2. We just love seeing our community come together and thrive. It really is what sets Redlands apart! Keep the momentum going and the pictures flowing. It’s great to see all the class get togethers being organised, and to all the Class Parent and Year Coordinators who have volunteered this year, you’re doing wonderful work. A heartfelt thank you on behalf of all parents.

Another great human and hound turn out for the Mosman to Cremorne Point walk this week!

All smiles at the Year 11 coffee meet up earlier this week. Thanks to the Year Coords for organising.

The sun was shining on the Year 7 family picnic at Clontarf on the weekend. Thanks to the volunteer Year Coords for bring everyone together!

This looks like a super time! Last weekend 75 Year 12 mums made their way to the Hunter to celebrate the start of Year 12!!!It was a fun filled weekend packed with lots of laughs, wine tasting and a dinner on Saturday night. This marks year two and maybe the start of a wonderful tradition.

Do you have pictures of parent / family get-togethers you want to share?

Please send them to RPFA Note Day.

Hope to see you at the Twilight Drinks this Friday night 6pm.
