Redlands Parents and Friends

Secondhand Uniforms

Thank you to everyone who has continued to support our Second Hand Uniforms Sale over the past two weeks – we have raised almost $8,000 to contribute to the means-tested Redlands Foundation Scholarship Fund. We are looking into the possibility of holding another sale one weekend later this term… but we need more stock! If you have clean, current uniforms to donate to this cause, please drop them off to the Uniform Shop!

Charity Events

This month, we are participating in two events in the fight against breast cancer.

Mother’s Day Classic Fun Run

Thank you to everyone who participated in and supported the 2023 Mother’s Day Classic as part of Team Redlands! We had families from all sections of school from Preschool through to Secondary School, including a School Captain, and with families from five continents, walking and/or running in all MDC races and distances and have raised just over $5,000 so far. Click here if you are still interested in donating to this great cause; the link will be open until the end of this term.

Redlands Pink Sock Charity Round

On Fri 26 May and Sat 27 May, we will be hosting the Redlands Charity Round. Teams will be wearing pink socks for their fixtures (you can purchase the socks at the uniform shop or on Flexischools) and there will be food and treats available for sale (please contact your respective FoGs to volunteer to make and/or sell baked goods), with proceeds donated to charity. Please come support our teams and fundraising efforts. You can also donate here if you cannot make it to any of the games.

Fri 26 May – Senior Football & AFL at Macquarie Fields

Sat 27 May – Senior Rugby at Macquarie Fields, Senior Netball at NBISC, Senior Hockey at Bowman Field; Junior Football at Redlands Junior School oval

For our younger Prep and Junior School cohorts who are not competing in representative sports, students may wear a Splash of Pink to school on Fri 26 May, along with a gold coin donation.

Teacher Appreciation

The RPFA will be organising morning tea at the end of the month to show our appreciation to all our fabulous teachers and support staff. Please check with your class and/or year parents to see if there are any additional initiatives being coordinated for specific teachers.

For past students of Mrs. Benneyworth, please send a picture or short 5-10 second video to BenneyworthBootcampers@outlook.com before 25 May for us to collate and send to her to wish her well. Please include the student’s name and year in Mrs. Benneyworth’s class.

Gala Ball

Purchase tickets to this fantastic black tie event to be held at the Fullerton Hotel (formerly the Westin) on Sat 12 Aug. You don’t need to organise a table to attend! Just nominate a year group(s) you’d like to sit with and Foundation will work their magic.

Walks on Tracks

Weekly guided walks around the northern Sydney area are organised by an RPFA volunteer. This is a great way to meet other Redlands parents and get in shape, plus a wonderful way to spend a morning discovering the many paths of the Sydney area.

The invitation for walks is open, so if you have friends or family who you think would like to come along, please feel free to bring them. Dogs are also welcome on most walks.

Next week’s walk on Wed 24 May will be from Cammeray to Northbridge. Meet at Tunks Park, Brothers Ave, Cammeray at 8.40am.

Any questions, please contact Ann Marie Kimber or call 0406 691 533.

Book Club

Come along and enjoy the lively conversation of other Redlands parents from all around the world with a common love of reading. The Book Club meets twice each school term, rotating among members’ homes. There is also an annual visit to Sunday Writer’s festival (May) and sometimes to movies that are tied in with a book discussion.

Our next meeting is Mon 19 Jun for morning tea. We will be discussing The Familiars by Stacey Hall. If you would like to host the meeting, or if you might be interested but have concerns about what’s involved, please contact Monica or Sabiha to have a chat.

Also, if you would be happy to host a meeting in the future but are just not available to do so in May/June, please let us know as well! We still have 4 more meetings in the second half of the year to organise!

Books planned for Term 3 are: The Seven Sisters by Lucinda Riley and BABEL by R.F. Kuang.
