Redlands Parents and Friends
Welcome to May! We have a busy month ahead – with more secondhand uniforms to sell, funds to raise, mothers to celebrate and teachers to appreciate.
We are currently planning on selling secondhand uniforms on Tues 9 May and Tues 16 May from 8.30-10am at the RPFA storage unit at 1 Monford Pl, around the corner from the uniform shop. We are also looking into the possibility of another Sat morning sale – watch this space for more info. As usual, our secondhand uniform sales provide great value for families and also give each of us an opportunity to contribute to the clear benefits of recycling. In addition, funds raised are contributed towards the means-tested Redlands Foundation Scholarship Fund. We will only be accepting payments by EFTPOS. Please also remember to bring your own bags for your purchases.
We are also participating in two events in the fight against breast cancer.
On Sun 14 May, complete a 5km or 10km walk or fun run around the Sydney Botanic Gardens with the family to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research at the 2023 Mother’s Day Classic. Mums, dads and kids are all welcome to join in the festivities. There are limited pink Redlands T-shirts from past MDC races available in the Uniform Shop. Or just wear your Redlands baseball caps! Join our team in the race (make sure to join Team Redlands!) or donate to this great cause. For more information, please contact Jennifer or Sophia.
On Fri 26 May and Sat 27 May, we will be reviving our pink sock charity fundraising program. Teams will be wearing pink socks for their fixtures (you can purchase the socks at the uniform shop or on Flexischools) and there will be food and treats available for sale (please contact your respective FoGs to volunteer to make and/or sell baked goods), with proceeds donated to charity. Please come support our teams and fundraising efforts.
Fri 26 May – Senior Football & AFL at Macquarie Fields
Sat 27 May – Senior Rugby at Macquarie Fields, Senior Netball at NBISC, Senior Hockey at Bowman Field; Junior Football at Redlands Junior School oval
All Junior School and Prep School students mums are also invited to join the Mother’s Day Celebration on Mon 15 May from 7.45am in the Piazza on the Junior Campus. To assist with catering, please book your attendance here.
The RPFA will be organising morning tea at the end of the month to show our appreciation to all our fabulous teachers and support staff. Please check with your class and/or year parents to see if there are any additional initiatives being coordinated for specific teachers. For past students of Mrs. Benneyworth, who was diagnosed with multiple myeloma during the summer break, please send a picture or short 5-10 second video to BenneyworthBootcampers@outlook.com before 25 May for us to collate and send to her to wish her well. Please include the student’s name and year in Mrs. Benneyworth’s class.

Walks on Tracks
Weekly guided walks around the northern Sydney area are organised by an RPFA volunteer. This is a great way to meet other Redlands parents and get in shape, plus a wonderful way to spend a morning discovering the many paths of the Sydney area.
The invitation for walks is open, so if you have friends or family who you think would like to come along, please feel free to bring them. Dogs are also welcome on most walks.
Next week’s walk on Wed 10 May will be in Hunters Hill. Followed by brunch at Keiko’s. Meet at 44 Carranya Rd, Riverview with a plate to share at 8.40am.
Any questions, please contact Ann Marie Kimber or call 0406 691 533.
Book Club
Come along and enjoy the lively conversation of other Redlands parents from all around the world with a common love of reading. The Book Club meets twice each School term, rotating among members’ homes. There is also an annual visit to Sunday Writer’s festival (May) and sometimes to movies that are tied in with a book discussion.
Our next meeting is Wed 17 May from 7pm at Tania’s house, 23 Calypso Ave Mosman. We will be discussing Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus. Please email Tania or call her on 0450473484 to let her know if you are coming so that she can plan appropriately for numbers. Reminder, we will only have light nibbles and drinks, no dinner. Please let Tania know if you would like to bring something.
If you want to pick up our next book, it is The Familiars by Stacey Halls. We will meet to discuss this book on 19 Jun at morning tea. If you would like to host the meeting, or if you might be interested but have concerns about what’s involved, please contact Monica or Sabiha to have a chat.
Also, if you would be happy to host a meeting in the future but are just not available to do so in May/June, please let us know as well! We still have 4 more meetings in the second half of the year to organise!
Books planned for Term 3 are: The Seven Sisters by Lucinda Riley and BABEL by R.F. Kuang.

Friends of Hockey hosted Central Coast for the first game of the season at our home ground, Barker. Despite the damp weather, we had a great turnout for the welcome morning tea for a big group of new players. And both the 1sts and Juniors won!
