Transition Gold

Transition Gold has been extremely busy getting used to the routine and the fast pace nature of the class. The children in Transition Gold have enjoyed the change of environment in the Prep School, particularly our weekly Library visits, PE, Music, French and Christian Studies specialist lessons. These important times give the students a sense of what Kindergarten will be like next year. During group sessions, Transition Gold learn mathematical, literacy, fine motor and social skills concepts. The high teacher-to-student-to-teacher ratio allows differentiation in programs and personalise learning to meet student’s needs. During mathematical sessions, we have been focusing on one to one correspondence and more and less. Pre-lit sessions focus on particular books, looking at unfamiliar words and their meanings as well as syllables. The children have loved watching small videos and playing syllable games on the interactive whiteboard.

Project work is at the core of the Transition program and allows for deep exploration and understanding driven by the students. Currently, students have been investigating different artists and their use of various mediums to create art work. Television exploration has been an interesting theme and students were excited to learn the mechanics of a television.
