Please note that all Upcoming Events for Redlands House/Transition Gold are on the Prep/RH Upcoming Events Note Day page.

Class Parents

We are seeking Class Parents for the Redlands House Junior classes. The key function of the role is to coordinate social activities for your Preschool class to build a strong and positive Redlands community. It is a wonderful way to become involved in your child’s education and to get to know other families at the School. While we only need one parent per class, it is absolutely fine if two parents would like to team up and share the role. If you are interested in fulfilling this role, please speak to your class teacher or Mrs Huon.

Medication

Redlands House has strict government regulations that must be adhered to. Medication will only be administered at Redlands House if the medication is prescribed to the child or if it accompanied by a certificate of statement from the child’s doctor.

For medical conditions – If medication is to be administered at Redlands House, a medical action plan is to be provided by the child’s parents/guardians.

For illness – If medication is to be administered at Redlands House, a medical record is to be completed and signed by the child’s parents/guardians. Please ask educators for a medical form.

In the case of an emergency – If medication is to be administered at Redlands House in the case of an emergency, verbal permission can be obtained by an educator from the child’s parents/guardians. In the case of an anaphylaxis or asthma emergency, medication can be administered without authorisation.

Medication will be stored in a child proof medication area (either within the fridge or cupboard as appropriate). Under no circumstances should medication be left in the child’s bag or in a place accessible to any children.

Redlands House Philosophy

You may have noticed some changes to our philosophy wall recently. After consultation with families, and some constructive feedback about the length, we have condensed our philosophy and added some wonderful visual representations drawn by the children. Please take some time to read this important document and provide us with any feedback. Your thoughts and ideas are always greatly appreciated.

Blue Class News

Upon returning to Redlands House after the school holidays, the Blue Class Seniors were in awe of the tall, bright sunflowers that had blossomed in the Preschool garden. Their conversations with each other, as well as with Mrs Gilroy and Miss Heard, were thoughtful and curious, sharing what they noticed and their prior knowledge. Many children have a natural affinity to the outdoors. Their fascination, attraction and eagerness to connect with nature is nurtured at Redlands, fostering a life-long connection to the environment.

The Blue Class teachers guided the Seniors through the beginning of the Visible Thinking Routine ‘I used to think…now I think’. At the beginning of a project, documenting children’s knowledge and ideas is useful to see how their thinking and learning changes as a result of engagement with a range of experiences.

“They don’t stay out forever.” Ashleigh
“Sunflowers can grow bigger than humans.” Tashi
“When sunflowers die, the seeds fall on the ground and grow another flower.” Archie

After sharing the story From Seed to Sunflower and watching a time-lapsed clip of a sunflower changing from seed through to wilting, the Seniors engaged in a discussion about the different parts of a sunflower and were given the opportunity to express their ideas through art. Through a variety of indoor learning experiences, the children continued to represent their thinking in different ways. This was really important for those children who were not confident in sharing their ideas by talking.

Thinking about the Hundred Languages of Children (Loris Malaguzzi), Blue Class will continue to plan intentional teaching moments and informal learning opportunities as the Seniors continue to investigate sunflowers.
