Redlands House/Transition Gold

Happy Birthday Redlands!

This week the School proudly celebrated 135 years of excellence in education at Redlands. In addition to this it celebrates 120 years on the Military Rd Campus and 30 years since the first International Baccalaureate cohort graduated. A delicious birthday cake was shared amongst staff with a culminating Foundation Day Service being held tomorrow. For some new families beginning at Redlands, you may not have been aware that our school has its origins in the College for Girls in 1884. Of interest is the history page on our website where the School’s archivist has gathered some wonderful pictures and information of the School’s history.

Maths and Literacy in Transition Gold

Transition Gold are exploring a project all about Maps. Did you know that the story of Alexander’s Outing by Pamela Allen follows a journey through Sydney of a family of ducks? The journey can be mapped and followed from the Botanic Gardens through to Art Gallery Road and into Hyde Park where the Archibald Fountain is found. Transition Gold wanted to know if the story was true. They researched using Google to find out that it was based on an event when a young policeman made sure that a family of ducks made it safely to Hyde Park across College Street many years ago. Pamela Allen used the story on which to base her book and even ensured that the Bottle Tree was replaced when it died. TG used a map of the area to follow the journey and plot the path on a real map.

Toys at Preschool

We are grateful for the abundant resources at Redlands House, and we therefore encourage the children to leave toys at home. Could you please support the staff with making sure all personal toys are kept at home to avoid them being broken or lost?  If your child has a special item to share for News, please leave this with your class teacher in the morning.
