Redlands House/Transition Gold
Orientation
Students who are joining the Preparatory School in Kindergarten and Transition Gold in 2019 participated in an Orientation Day last Wednesday. Students rotated amongst the classrooms and throughout the day, the bi-fold doors between the rooms were opened, so children were able to have a large open area to explore. Teachers all commented on their readiness for this next phase and how well-prepared and comfortable students were in this new environment. This day was a milestone for our youngest members of Redlands and I thank the staff who worked tirelessly to make sure the children left with many happy stories of their first day in Kindergarten and Transition.
If I could share some tips with you about school preparation, it may help you avoid the unknown or alleviate some pressure.
- Teach your child to help with dressing themselves, it will save time in the busy mornings.
- Encourage your child to contribute with packing of their school bag and lunchbox.
- Make sure they can open containers and lunch wraps in their lunchbox.
- Phase out nap-time.
- Be sure your child can function without a special blanket, toy or comforter.
- Talk about starting Kindergarten (but not so much that you build anxiety).
