Thinking

At Redlands, we acknowledge that one of our goals is to encourage children to be good thinkers. At Preschool age, children are naturally curious and therefore the educator’s role is to introduce them to different, more effective ways of thinking. Teachers support the children to focus on critical thinking, problem solving, communication, collaboration and creativity and innovation. We develop these skills by assisting the children to make connections between new ideas and their own experiences, building on their prior knowledge, identify children’s current understandings and address any misconceptions. We engage the children in real-life problem solving, encouraging them to describe what they are thinking and verbalising our thoughts to co-construct meaning, challenge ideas and viewpoints.

Families can assist in developing these thinking dispositions by:

  • Helping children make connections between new ideas and their own experiences
  • Engaging children in solving problems
  • Talking about what they are thinking
  • Asking children to describe their thinking (“What makes you say that?”)
  • Expose children to various viewpoints (e.g., read multiple versions of stories)
Jump Rope for Heart

The Junior School, Preparatory and Redlands House have joined hundreds of schools across the country in the Heart Foundation’s Jump Rope for Heart, the largest and most recognised fundraising and physical activity program for young people in Australia. With 25% of Australian students considered unhealthy, it’s more important than ever for students to get involved in physical activity. After our incredible efforts of raising $66,000 in 2016, this year we have set ourselves a target fundraising goal of $70,000!

Fundraising for Jump Rope for Heart works through an online platform, where you can create a secure fundraising page for your child. Please register your child under the correct section of the school. We are all fundraising towards the same target, however, we are having a bit of friendly competition amongst the sections and are following our target as it rapidly grows towards our overall fundraising goal.

A note with extra information has been placed on Redlands Pulse for parents. Please use the following link to create a fundraising page for your child:  Redlands House

Thank you for supporting your children and the Heart Foundation in this year’s Jump Rope for Heart.
