Redlands House and Transition Gold
Celebrating Diwali
This week we were fortunate to have some of our parents, Sonya and Leah, come to preschool to share how they celebrate Diwali. Diwali is India’s biggest festival which is celebrated in India and SE Asia it is also called the festival of lights, it celebrates good over bad. Families celebrates by lighting candles, sparklers and buying new clothes. In the evening they wear the new clothes, light candles and decorate with colour. Inviting good into their homes. The children enjoyed decorating little clay lanterns called Diya, that they were able to take home and light with their families. Using coloured powder, they also made patterns called Rangoli. We are grateful to have and celebrate many different cultures at Redlands. Having parents share first-hand experiences with the children ensures authentic knowledge and understanding is passed on to the children. It means a great deal to us.
