End of Year Performances and Presentations
In preparation for End of Year Presentations, Music Groups and Ensembles will participate in a recording project over the coming weeks. The Music Department has consolidated a range of creative projects to deliver uniquely different performances for 2020 and still provide students with the opportunity to share their musical talents with the School community. Various music groups and ensembles will be involved in recording projects across Weeks 5 and 6 working in conjunction with Redlands Sound Engineer Mr Pete Atkins (Audio) and Videographer Mr James Taggart (Video), from Tagged Pictures.
The major recording days for students enrolled in the Music Ensembles program will occur in Week 6. All musicians are required to wear full school uniform on this day and ensure that all instruments and music scores are ready for these recordings. A letter of communication will be sent to all musicians over the coming week in providing a detailed recording schedule.

Yr 4 and 5 MIP Incursion Percussion Extravaganza
Last Thursday, Yrs 4 and 5 students attended an incursion in the Edwards Auditorium on the Senior Campus, to learn more about Orchestral Percussion from our specialist teacher Ms Sandy Sin. This MIP learning experience titled ‘Meet The Musician’ is part of a broader series where students have the opportunity to learn about various instruments from exceptional pedagogues within the Music Department. Ms Sandy Sin’s prowess across the full spectrum of Orchestral Percussion was incredible.
“The Yrs 4 and 5 students’ collective ‘oohs’ and ‘aahhs’ when hearing the different colour across the full range of orchestral percussion, followed by shrieks of “I don’t want it to end” as the incursion finished, is reflective of the stimulating and engaging learning experience.” Mrs Amy Richardson
Music Elective Soirées
The Music Department would like to commend all musicians from Yrs 8, 9 and 10 Music Elective who presented repertoire for assessment at the Soirée Concerts throughout this past week. The students were very well prepared with their repertoire and confidently presented in front of peers in the Edwards Auditorium and to their parents via Zoom. Designed as a student led event, we commend classes on their developing skills as musicians as well as various other roles including compering, sound operation, lighting and stage management.
“The opportunities of working in a purpose-built performance facility like the Edwards Auditorium is certainly providing students with real life experiences in developing and delivering a polished high-quality music concert”. Mr Darren Kuilenburg
Thank you to our class teachers Ms Brodie, Mr Owen, Mr Kuilenburg, Mrs Richardson, Mrs Worthington for their wonderful guidance and mentoring of the students in performance classes throughout this year. Thanks are also extended to our exceptional accompanists Mr Li, Mr Idarraga, Mr Smith, Mr Wade, Mr Wooltorton and Mr Xu, who have mentored the students throughout the year.
