Music
Welcome Back
The Music Department would like to welcome back all students and their families after what we trust has been an enjoyable and relaxing mid-year break. For all members of the Music community, we are aware that the first half of the year was challenging, with many variations to the format and delivery of our programs, and we hope that the last few weeks have provided everyone with the opportunity to refresh and recharge in readiness for a new term.
Congratulations
The Music Department would like to celebrate the achievement and success of Music teacher Mrs Amy Richardson who features in the new publication from Harvard, The Power of Making Thinking Visible: Practices to Engage and Empower all Learners. In part 2 of the book, Amy is one of the Pictures of Practice where she outlines how she used the What? So What? Now What? Thinking routine with her Yr 11 Music class. The publication has an international audience and our inclusion in the book will contribute to the reputational profile of the School at a local and international level. We are very proud of Mrs Richardson and her incredible achievement as a leading educator within our department.

Semester 2 Music Events
It is anticipated that updated Music events will be made available on Redlands Pulse next week for parents to access. As everyone can appreciate and understand, this may be a changing schedule over the coming semester, as some of these events are subject to the NSW Health advice at the given time.
Hygiene in the Music Setting
As part of our return to group settings, this continues to be a well-considered aspect of our planning, and students involved in group instruction will follow the guidelines through the spreading out of rehearsals, utilising larger areas and rehearsal spaces to promote distancing, where possible. Regular cleaning and disinfecting of musical equipment and resources will be undertaken daily.

Semester 2 Competition Auditions
- Vocal Competition Auditions (Term 3, Week 5)
- Instrumental Competition Auditions (Term 3, Week 9)
The audition process for both the Vocal and Instrumental entries will require students to demonstrate advanced technical skills, personal expression and understanding of style. For the audition, students will only need to present ONE work. A second contrasting piece will need to be considered at the time of the audition and discussed with the audition panel. This piece WILL NOT be required to be presented at the time of the audition but will need to be prepared and presented in advance of the Competition if the candidate is selected as a finalist. Application forms can be found on Redlands Pulse.
Please note: Entries are ONLY accepted when accompaniment scores are submitted to Music Reception at the time of the application submission.
